Dymystify TW primary schooling for me?

Hello local Kent board,

Originally posted this on the main Mumsnet and then someone kindly suggested I re-post my question here.

DH, DD and I are considering a move to TW for DD to start reception (state) in Sept 2015. Our budget is max £900k. DH would commute to Cannon St.

Based on our budget which areas should we be looking? I appreciate this question has been asked a number of different ways but having trawled lots of threads I'm still at a loss for where to focus our search. Most feedback is the good primary schools are oversubscribed and only siblings are getting in. Based on this are we silly to be considering TW at all? Shame because it's such a lovely town.

Many thanks in advance.

St James infants is a good (ofsted outstanding) school, it publishes the named roads that are in catchment. If you live one of the roads you'll very likely get in. Key roads like st james rd. & park and Beulah, stone street. Your budget will easily buy you a place in this area. It's very friendly and near to town and under 15 min walk to either twells or high brooms station. Most of the other schools prioritise siblings which reduces available places for others.

Hello, my youngest goes to Claremont and it's an excellent school, but does priorities siblings. As the mum above says, most do in TW and that can be an issue, I gather it was particularly this year for lots of schools. I know parents with children at St James and Southborough and they speak highly of them.
