Advice on schools between the commons

Hello
We are looking to move to Battersea. Beyond Belleville and Honeywell! which everyone loves! what are the other primary schools like? And what is the choice for state secondaries? Finally, can I actually afford to move there? Budget is £1.5. Thanks so much in advance.

Apologies for rogue exclamation marks.

I posted about this on the thread about school places. IMO there is too much emphasis on Honeywell and Belleville. Other primaries near to that area are Alderbrook, High View and Wix (not on your doorstep like the others but no more than a 15 minute walk/scoot). All are rated good by OFSTED and on the up according to parents of kids there.

For state secondaries, there is the new Bolingbroke Academy which opened a few years ago. High View and Wix are feeder schools for it along with Honeywell and Belleville.

As for what you get for £1.5m that depends what you decide about schools. If you want to be in catchment for Honeywell/Belleville then maybe not. I saw this 3 bed flat on Honeywell Road in an estate agent's window the other day. Just over 1,000sq ft and £1.1m!

If you don't need to be in catchment, then your budget should get you a nice 4 or 5 bed Victorian terrace on a leafy street near Northcote Road.

Wow Mumbleema £1.1m - that works out at over £1,000 per sq foot. Crazy!!

Are you totally set on the BTC area Paloma?

If not have a look at Balham - you'd get an awful lot more for your money and there are good primaries here too. For your budget you might be able to nab something in the Heaver estate right next to Tooting Common. Here's one to show you how much more you get for your money www.primelocation.com/for-sale/details/31943911?search_identifier=c2dcb661fb574c296ab684ab25d4e9fc

Streatham's worth a look too. Lots of my BTC friends have sold their 3 bed terraces and swapped them for 6 bed detached's in Streatham for the exact same money (cynic in me wants to point out they waited to do it until after their DC had got into HW/BV). I hear Henry Cavendish school there is good though and Dunraven is excellent for secondary.

BTC is lovely but I just don't think it is lovely enough to justify the prices anymore.

Until Balham or Streatham get a Gail's I'm staying put!

I'm not massively keen on Balham, to be honest. Apologies to anyone who lives there. Bad memories for me!! Pretty set on BTC.

There are good private schools in the area too. Broomwood Hall, Thomas's, Northcote Lodge, Eaton House the Manor and Newton Prep all worth a look.

Yikes! I remember when Louisville Road was the non-desirable part of The Heaver Estate!

paloma12 there's a house for sale right next to Honeywell for just under £1.5m here it is. Gives you an idea of what you'd get for your money if you wanted to be in catchment.

Paloma12 · 12/05/2014 22:56

Thank you! We actually viewed that house. We have found another one, in Belleville catchment. Fingers crossed for us please!!
