Hello there
we are a Catholic Irish family moved a few years ago from London and now living in rural Norfolk .
I am trying to decide whether or not to apply to NDHS for places for my children as, though I thought I wouldn't have a problem with them not going to a religious school, actually I think I do . My worry is, as we live one hour from Norwich, I'm not sure how we could organise regular sociability with the children they would potentially go to school with...or how we would get them there everyday ???
Any advice, help or comments greatly appreciated.

I have a friend who teaches there, she is lovely!

She has said a lot of the children travel in some distance, so your position wouldn't be unusual.

That being said as you are choosing to send them to a school so far away then I think you would have to facilitate transport either by paying for public transport or driving them in yourself.

But you may want to check with the council re transport.

I have friends with kids there and they like it, we considered it but are not Catholic so didn't feel right sending our kids to a Catholic school.

How rural are you what are buses etc like?

kerrygold01 · 26/04/2014 14:12

thanks for reply...we're a good hour away, taking in traffic etc so a trip twice a day is a lot of commitment.
the village we live in is already v quiet for 2 teenagers, so I don't want to compound the problem by sending them to a school so far away.
That said, if I thought lots of other children were travelling to NDHS from quite a way they may be able to set up a weekend and holiday network closer to home with some of those...

My boys travel to School, rather than attend the local high school. Not as far but we pay for the bus and tbh It's not an issue re friends, we gave friends round here after school or they meet in town at the cinema etc.

Living rurally you will end up doing lots of taxi ing around with teens unless there is good public transport.

there's no Public Transport at all from where we live and I always try to ensure that I taxi..relatively !!...willingly and cheerfully as a result. lol
Currently they get the bus to our local SS from outside our front door and they love it there..but as a parent I feel I've taken the easy option as it's not a church school and is in special measures, so am wondering if i need to shake the applecart....decisions decisions...
thanks for coming back to me...have a nice weekend, though the suns hiding

I think half of Norfolk secondaries are in SM (okay, not really, but plenty reeling). Not Stalham by chance, is it?
