Kids summer camps

Hi, Anyone got any recommendations for summer camp style childcare for over the summer holidays?

I have found the following:

www.kingscamps.org/booking/cambridge-leys-school

www.barracudas.co.uk/camps/view/cambridge

And also noticed that CRC do half term sports style things so may be doing stuff in the summer holidays as well.

My DS is 5 (reception). We are taking a long family holiday for 2 weeks and might be able to cover some of it with just me taking holiday - but 6 weeks is a scarily long amount of time to sort out! (Not to mention DD starts school in Sept, and if last year is anything to go by, we will be given a short amount of notice that, actually, she doesn't start school full time for 3 weeks after the start of term, grrrr) There is a holiday club at DS's school, although he likes going to it for after school club, the holiday club seems a little dead, and to be honest, crap, so am going to try and avoid it if poss.

Thanks!

My DS1 (9) has done King's Camp twice and loves it. It's well run, fun and amazing facilities at The Leys. I was thinking of moving him to Barracudas at St Faiths in the summer because I think they do archery which he wants to try.

I was going to see if I could get a mumsnet deal with both camps. Watch this space.

holiday clubs

I'll be listing more over the next few weeks as MNHQ will run a promotion close to the summer holidays.

I worked for Barracudas for a summer (albeit about ten years ago) and it was good then. Chesterton Sports Centre also do summer clubs and they always look great value. Not tried them personally, but my son swims there and we've been very happy with that and the staff seem friendly.

DS went to little monsters at Imington Village college last summer - he enjoyed it and it was good value

Just bumping, anyone got any more info? I've been looking at Kings Camps and Barracuda for DD age 5. I can't see any info on anything at Impington VC. She will need to go full time for one week, and we want a change from the usual after school club

northofcambridge · 19/06/2014 21:00

here is IVC Monstrous Fun

South cambridgshire council are also offer some sports days but I can't find them on their website!

Hi returning to this thread, my son used the club at CRC over half term

www.thepark-cambridge.co.uk/index.php?page=SC-kids

It is very cheap, so I was a little apprehensive. Son was unhappy being dropped off as he was "shy". And they didn't realise that I had paid for him to have a hot lunch the first day, so I got a phone call saying "Oh does he need feeding he seems hungry"!?

So I picked him up expecting him to be unhappy. Nope - "I LOVED IT CAN I GO BACK TOMORROW".

So that was a hit then. Will definitely be using it again, as he seemed to have a great time. Unfortunately it's not on when I would need it over the summer.

Will probably try out kings or barracuda's this summer.

The CRC looks fab, but it's not on the week I need it. the leys would be easier to get to so may go for that

Londo · 21/06/2014 09:15

We have attended King's Camp. Our daughter had fun at it. We were looking at the Barracuda camp as well. There was a lot to do at Kings Camp. She certainly had a lot to do

orchardy · 21/06/2014 11:30

If your children like performing (and I realise many don't) Stagecoach do week-long courses in the summer holidays. One of my DCs would be far happier with this than with sports camps, so it's something I am bearing in mind although I don't actually need it for various reasons this year.

chintonroad · 27/06/2014 09:57

Hi Summer, my DD age 5 (who your DS knows, hem hem) is doing "summer sports camp" as we're calling it at the Kings Camps, week of 28 July. If he wants a little buddy, and that fits with your holiday plans, I'm sure she'd love to play together.

SummerLightning · 27/06/2014 10:10

Hello chintonroad, I only know one person who lives on chintonroad with a DD aged 5 :-)

Unfortunately (well not unfortunately actually as it will be ace), we are getting rid of the kids for a week that week to go to grandparents (can't wait)

I think he will be going to Kings or Barracuda's the week after though.

Ah you lucky things, the grandparents will love it and so will the kids!

NewtoCambridge · 27/06/2014 13:23

Hi Chinton, I'll be sending my DD age 5 to Kings or Barracuda that week

chintonroad · 04/07/2014 21:42

Hello Newtocambridge! And welcome :)

SummerLightning · 28/08/2014 10:15

Hello coming back to this thread. My son only ended up going 1 day (!) to Barracudas over the summer (due to getting grandparents to help out/taking leave, etc)

He loved it and my general impression was that it was very well organised with lots of stuff to do. Getting information out of my DS is, however, a nightmare, so what he ACTUALLY did is a bit of a mystery. Apart from something about a bouncy castle slide with water.

Just reviving this too as always looking for similar info. My DS7 went to Barracudas for a week and loved it - in fact he wanted to go for a second week after initially being reluctant. I got a chance to have a good nose around one day as I'd forgotten to give him his 50p "fruit money" - it seems well run and organised. Definitely will be booking both DSs in next year.
I've been looking for 2/3 days activity over October half term though... My younger one is in Reception and will be 4y 4m which seems to exclude him from almost all - I know he'd love an activity/ arty based day or two but I suppose will have to wait till next year? Any ideas?

SummerLightning · 18/09/2014 11:09

My son went to one called Arty Crafts or something in Newnham (for one day only!), and I'm pretty sure his friend went a lot during his reception year so I think they do take them at that age. It finishes at 4:30 though which is not so ideal if you work.

I didn't realize that all these things don't take them in early reception - my son was 5 before he went to any but was in his reception year when he went to the club at Cambridge Regional College that I mentioned above.

My DD is just 4 and just started reception and although this October half term we are taking holiday I was expecting to have to send her to some holiday clubs next year. Eek if they won't take her!

TwoCrazyBoys · 18/09/2014 23:18

Summer - no ArtyCrafts only take at 5. That was my first choice for next half term as older DS has been there for a couple of days in the past and loved it. I like it too - it's kinda quirky and a bit hippy :-) quite the opposite of Barracudas!
