Hello mumsnet,

My husband and I are thinking of moving to kent and quite like the little village of Wye, we do not have any children yet but I would like to find out if there are any good nurseries around the area of Wye.

Please can I also get some advice on actual areas in Wye if any that should be avoided? We want to get this right and would love to settle here before we start a family.

Many thanks guys!!

We made the move to Wye from London a few years ago when we started a family, I can highly recommend it - if you are ready for village life Grin of course. There is a fabulous pre school (oversubscribed) plus the prep school has a nursery too, these are term time options only however. For year round all day nurseries you would need to go to the nearby towns of Ashford or Canterbury.

No places to avoid really, it is a small village, the real issue is the lack of housing stock/properties coming on the market.

Hi Toystory and Lozpot

I moved to Wye a few weeks ago with my husband and young daughter. It's a really wonderful and unique village - in that it is well served by shops, pubs, etc so that it is very self contained, but still very much a village rather than a small town.

I don't think there are any areas to be avoided that I know of! Personally we wanted to be in the village rather than the other side of the level crossing where there is a new development where houses come up, but this is just a preference really. You are more likely to find a rental property available than one for sale, but properties do come on for sale and we have bought one so it is not completely impossible although because there are so few each year it may be worth moving into a rented property to be better able to view properties that come on for sale.

In terms of nursery, there is a nursery attached to Spring Grove which is a lovely prep school, but children start there aged two. As Lozpot says there is also a really good pre-school, children start there (space permitting) from September following their second birthday - you can check out the website for full details www.wyeunderfives.co.uk

For childcare for littler ones, there are a couple of registered childminders in the village and many people I believe have nannies or nanny shares. There are more nurseries in Ashford but that may not be convenient.

On another note I would really like to meet new people in the village so if either of you would like to meet up now or in the future then please get in touch!
