Hi All,

Interested to hear your thoughts on this ....
I just had a parent consultation and am furious. My daughter is in year 1 in a local primary school. She loves to learn and is a good girl who does not present any problems to anybody. In the end of term assessments she scored a very high attainment level in English, maths and science - it was more on a par with a year 2 child. The teachers basically told me that they can challenge her too much further as they are waiting for the rest of her class to catch up. I asked for her to move into year 2 then as she is bored - they say they cant do that. I feel bad for her a she is becoming an invisible child due to the fact that she is doing well and isn't in anybody's face. What are your thoughts on this? I feel like I am letting her down by not fighting her corner but not sure if it is reasonable to push the moving up thing??? Help! Does anyone else have this issue???

Hi there, what a shame!
I have to say that this is certainly not an issue at the little school my two daughters attend. It is the most amazing little school where they work totally with the child and the individual child's ability. There are children in my daughters class (year 2) that are a year and a half younger - but are working above and beyond the levels for their year group.
It isn't a problem at all! I suppose this is helped by having very small class sizes (10) - the kids get so much individual attention and are able to learn so naturally without ever getting bored. Their learning is accelerated but without anyone being aware of this! I feel for you, because I know if your child is becoming bored, her enjoyment and pleasure at school will be compromised.
My daughter's school is called One World Prep...

Thanks sooooo much Georgieboy1 - I just rang and spoke to the head teacher. She gave me some brilliant advice. I am going to go and visit the school too!
It sounds brilliant and I didn't even know it was there - we are really nearby. Feeling much better to know that there are things I can do to help DD :-)
