Baby friendly cafe with good changing facilities?

Any recommendations? We've been to the Shelford Deli( good coffee, but crowded), the Gogs ( steamy and difficult with buggy), Marks and Spencer in Cambridge ( nice seating area by window but changing table next to sinks). Am not fussy, honest- good coffee and a changing table not on display a must! Thanks : )

John Lewis has a brilliant family room IMO - - clean, big, double loo so your toddler can watch you pee - which we all know they love to do. I've never had the coffee in the cafe (on the same floor - 3rd) - but there have been rumours on this site that they give FREE CAKE - so you can't go wrong.

Ishouldcoco2013 · 03/04/2014 09:00

Free cake?! We're in! We went to the Linton Kitchen yesterday which had delicious cake and good coffee! Just a bit of a drive...Thanks!

Yep - sign up for a John Lewis card and they sound vouchers and you get free cake and a free coffee.

I've heard Linton Kitchen in nice - and Black Cat Cafe apparently in Cambridge too?

Have you signed up for meet ups? We're doing drinks on 25th April & bound to have a coffee and cake day time meet up soon.

LocalEditorCambridge · 03/04/2014 18:41

send vouchers..... weird typo....

SummerLightning · 04/04/2014 11:42

Michaelhouse cafe in Cambridge is good.
Linton kitchen doesn't have many seats does it - a bit of a trek but lovely.
Black cat is good, but it didn't used to have a proper toilet - let alone changing facilities.
There used to be a cafe along mill road that was good from a kids point of view - toys for kids, etc. I can't remember the name but it was the other side of the bridge from Black cat, and the other side of the road, probably half way into town from the bridge.
I think Cambridge area has a bit of a lack of good cafes outside the city centre - I love the gogmagog farm shop but as you say it's not good for buggies, and is also not particularly child friendly (I always feel like my kids are going to trash the place!)
Milton Country park has a pretty good cafe, and is a nice place to visit?
Or anglesey abbey's cafe is OK too.

Another vote for Michaelhouse.

Food4Food cafe www.food4foodcafe.org.uk/ has a large toilet with changing equipment, but I haven't tried the food.
Friends recommend Hot Numbers just off Mill Road, but no idea about changing facilities.

LocalEditorCambridge · 04/04/2014 15:30

And here - very child friendly & someone's done an actual review! [excited]

Another vote for John Lewis. Lovely cafe and changing facilities.

Also, the arts picture house has big scream screening, that's good to go to

LocalEditorCambridge · 04/04/2014 15:40

I can't do much in the Easter Holidays as I have 9 year old... but if anyone fancied doing the hard job of first hand reviews of cafes & cake I am available (with a 15 month old)

millroadster · 08/04/2014 01:56

Hello All!

I heartily recommend Hot Numbers, on Gwydir Street, just off of Mill Road in Dale's Brewery. Wonderful, wonderful coffee, friendly staff, plenty of space for buggies on one side and a clean bathroom with pull down change table.

We're quite big fans of the Garden Cafe in the Botanic Gardens, lots of space, highchairs, baby books and child food options too plus baby change. You do have to pay to get into the Gardens but it's always popular and busy with small people so definitely worth a visit Smile

Ishouldcoco2013 · 08/04/2014 21:47

And I've just remembered that the Fair Shares cafe is child friendly and does great reasonable homemade food. It's just opposite Pembroke. Will check out Hot Numbers, am back at work so a list of good places to visit when I have Hol/weekends is somehow reassuring! I'll be working 3 days a week throughout May so if anyone is free on a Thurs or Fri and wants to check some of the suggestions out, then how about starting somewhere central like the Michaelhouse?

So following this! We like our cake!
We've tried Shelford deli and yes it's yummy but gets very crowded.
Linton kitchen very cute but no baby change
Farm shop at gog magog lovely but not that child friendly...
John Lewis is great!
Where does everyone park for Cambridge?

MrsGrowbag · 09/04/2014 21:58

Abantu in Bourn - very child friendly, can't remember the changing facilities as my dc are teens (!) but the loo is clean and quite big. Yummy cakes, lovely coffee and children's play stuff. Plus it's in a farmyard so there are chickens, goats, pigs etc outside to look at (behind fences.....). Also, it's all Fairtrade, if you want to feel virtuous whilst stuffing your face

LocalEditorCambridge · 10/04/2014 12:53

I think Garden Cafe is great at the Botanic too. Good idea to become member as definitely pays for itself quickly.

Does anyone go to Burwash Manor for coffee and play?

ParkersJamPiece · 10/04/2014 15:06

Another vote for Michaelhouse cafe. We sometimes go to Cote in the mornings at the weekend - good coffee and pastries, friendly staff and changing facilities.

The box cafe on Norfolk Street is good too if you have a toddler as they have a playhouse - it is just next to the main door though so you need to try and get a table near it if you want to actually sit down and drink something rather than stand around making sure your DC don't make a run for it.
Just about to start my 2nd round of mat leave so need to brush up on my cafe knowledge again.

MidsummerCommon · 17/04/2014 15:11

I like going to the Black Cat on my own, but service can be very slow so not ideal if you have hungry toddlers. It isn't huge so difficult with a pushchair.

Michaelhouse is great, with lots of space.

The cafe at Scotsdales does a decent children's lunch of sandwich, milk/juice, fruit, biscuit, cheese etc with free seeds to take home and plant. We sometimes go to see the birds and fish then have lunch. The staff are really helpful at carrying trays, getting highchairs etc when your hands are otherwise full!

Anglesey Abbey is good for a roam around if you are a NT member. In the cafe, there is a children's table of things like toys and colouring pencils so we sit near there then the DC can wander to the table once they are done while we are finishing off.

Hot Numbers does amazing bacon sandwiches with the bacon coming from Northrups. So good!

Pam888 · 25/04/2014 13:07

Livingstones on St Andrews Street (cambridge) is good because it has a play area with toys for toddlers. Not bad panini's either Smile

MrsGrowbag · 26/04/2014 12:20

I used to take my DC to Livingstones when they were small. It was great with toddlers. When my DS1 started going into Cambridge for shopping and lunch by themselves, I instructed them to go there rather than McDonalds etc becuse I knew that ordering lunch would be quite a big thing for them to do and they would be treated really well by the staff (who I think are all volunteers).

NekoKutsu · 28/04/2014 21:13

John Lewis, Hot Numbers, Michaelhouse and Caffe Sicilia are all our votes :)

ChestertonCharley · 01/05/2014 12:19

Clowns on King Street is run by Italians so bound to be baby-friendly, though I have never investigated changing facilities. Another nice place for a shopping lunch.
