Arrowe Park Hospital or Liverpool Women's (first baby)?

Hi,
I live on the Wirral so have been sent details about APH but I have heard so many horror stories. My friend had her baby at the Women's and they were lovely. APH would be better though as much nearer. Does anyone have any stories they can share about both hospitals in the last couple of years please? I can only find reviews from 2012.
Thanks x

Hi Curly, mine was a few years ago at the Womens, but I didn't want your post to go unanswered. They did us proud, difficult three day labour (baby was back to back), ventouse delivery, baby was in SBC for 8 days (bruising resulted in jaundice), I couldn't fault them. Midwife led too.

No experience of Arrow Park, sorry.

Have not heard good things about arrowe park but there are always horror stories and rumours. I was at the women's - the delivery was good but the postnatal care wasn't so I can't say if particularly recommend them. Ive heard good things about whiston but that's probably a bit far. Personally I would go for nearest - you don't want to get stuck in the Mersey tunnel!

Thanks very much both of you. Getting stuck in the tunnel did cross my mind! I'll have my scan at APH as scheduled and hopefully be able to suss it out.
Thanks again x

Good luck Curly, hope it goes well for you. Smile Let us know what you think after your scan, might help someone else maybe.

I had my DS at women's, labour was great despite me having complications, after care not so great! My sister has had her DC at both, said APH was just as good as women's. Could go on a tour of both and see what you prefer, as you say you don't know when you'll go into labour, if it's 8am in the morning you've got to fCtor in the tunnel traffic!

I had all mine at the Women's in 2009 and 2011.

The only bad experience was post twin birth, a clearly bad tempered midwife making me get up to shower on my own.

I agree with PP though - with DS3 I had to get a taxi for the ten minute ride, it would have been awful to have a long journey!

Liverpool women's every time. Not least cause its a specialist hospital. But also cause they're great.

Hiya, I had both of my babies in APH (one 2 years ago and one 2 weeks ago) and thought they were good. The last thing you want to be doing in labour is travelling far! The only issue with APH is they are under staffed so you are left to get on with it yourself when the baby is born without much help so if it's your first baby I'd make sure you have someone with you who knows what they're doing with a newborn x

Just wondering what ypur choice was? I have a few hprror stories of my own from arrowpark. Firths pregnancy was awful. I was told my baby had a chromasonal issue by one doctor who went on to attempt to take amnio fluid and knocked the needle in my stomache which bounced around because he never held it still.. My baby had very little water as it was and he went on to tell me to let nature take its cause.. I was 24 weeks 3 days and they wouldnt help me because my baby wasn't 25 weeks so wasn't classes as 'viable' i went to the womens liverpool to ask for help where i was kept in and told i was to see a speciallist the next day. I was so relieved but unfortunately the next day a scan showed my baby had died through the night. I cant help but think if i'd have gone to womens in the first place this would have not been the case. Second pregnancy was ok but she was born full term in distress at a very low birth weight as arrow didnt seem to know anything about previous or understand anything about IUGR. Third baby i noticed signs of previous issues and went to my consultant to express my concern where i was told to, and i quote "take a chill pill, its just ypur anxiety" i cried outside maternity because they took no notice. The next day i returned and demanded they check the baby. Within 40 mins i was on the operating table and my second daughter was born with an apgar score of zero. The surgeon said if she had been inside me 10mins longer she would have been dead and that she will have more than likely suffered nerve damage that would effect her motor skills. I was then wheeled into recovery where a nurse who was trying to put the break on my bed fell and smacked me in the stomach.. She failed to report it or tell anyone and this later turned out to cause internal bleeding. I was left with a 10cm blood clot on my scar inside. After care was appauling too i lost alot of blood and contracted an infection from the cathiter. I kept telling midwives and was told i wasnt peeing blood i was having a period..patronising as hell! This infection which my doctor later checked 2 weeks later took 4 wels of antibiotics to clear. Also, nobody checked my wee or bloods after the c-section and it wasn't until forced them to take me to see my baby in special care and collapsed that they realised i needed 2 bags of blood traNsfusion.. Personal experience! Moral of the story is stand your ground where ever you go! My experiences were bad because a lack of communication and knowledge of my condition. If i was a straight forward pregnancy i would say arrow park os fine but if u need specialist treament or care travel is worth it. I kept returning to arrow in the hope they would learn and understand and they would listen.i was petrified of my notes being lost if i went to the womens. I was wrong on all occasions and never recieved an apology from anyone! One doctor left and my files went missing..
