Hi everyone,

I'm seriously considering home educating my 10 year old daughter for year 7 as she has been offered a secondary school neither of us want her to attend.

I have looked into it and both, she and I, are happy to go for it. Before I make a concrete decision and turn down the school place she's been offered, I wanted to see if anyone else with secondary age children is also doing this or considering this.

I was wondering if anyone would fancy joining my daughter and I for group activities such as team sports, drama, music, science workshops and trips that would be more easily facilitated by having a group of children rather than just us.

I plan to base what we do on the national curriculum nothing particularly groundbreaking and hope that by getting a group together, we can add an extra dynamic.

We've vaguely decided that we would have dedicated study 8-12 covering the core subjects then spend the afternoons 1-3pm with other important subjects like music, art, drama, PE, and languages. Thinking of teaching French (which I have an A-level in) and Mandarin (which I spoke with my mum more as a child - but my mum would be able to help). This would cover requirements if we did this Mon-Thursday then we're thinking that Friday could be an activity which would support one of the study areas.

If anyone is interested please do let me know. I can't seem to find much in the way of local home school/education groups.

I also have a younger daughter and depending on primary school admissions she may be homeschooled too. I mean this with both girls as a temporary measure until we get a place at a school we feel comfortable with. So probably only for one year but we will see how it goes.

Hi! There are 'loose' work groups around. I home ed my dd (nearly 9) so am not doing secondary but do see messages/posts re secondary groups in the area. Have you joined the Yahoo groups and Facebook groups - there is loads on there.

Hi there, we 've just arrived in Twickenham, we've lived and homeschooled in Australia for the last 8 years, boys now 10 and 8. Also looking for Homeschooling groups in the Twickenham Richmond area. Any leads greatly appreciated, struggling to find any. Happy to start a group if there isn't one! I helped run the Cairns group back home. Cheers!

Hi - I help to run a local community film screening group in Ham, in Richmond. In September we are screening a medley of short films on education including a TED talk by a homeschooled child. We always follow up our screenings with discussion. At the moment we have someone from forest schools and teachers from a local State primary coming along. Would you guys be interested in attending? And do you know of anyone in Kingston or Ham who is homeschooling? It may be a chance to network as well as to discuss education of children in general. See www.hamunitedgroup.org.uk/calendar/item/15412639 and the Green Screen page on the Ham United Group website. The screening is free, and will be on Thurs 25 Sep in Ham Library Community space, doors open 7pm, films start 7.15pm. Looking forward to hearing from you!

HI, I might be interested. My son is 13 but young for his age.
We home schooled/ deschooled last academic year and he'll be diong some more formal tutoring from September but will have several days a week and most days from 3 or 4pm free.

He did some Mandarin and loved it and is doing French, so yes I would be interested but ideally if there were a few older boys around.

( I only say this as some home-ed groups have been hard for him as mostly full of much younger children)

Hi everyone, we are new to the UK and my son was too late to get into a good school here this year so thinking of him repeating a year but 1) not sure if it's a good idea because he's bright. He might lose interest and 2) we would need to homeschool him for the last term (he's going to a school he doesn't enjoy at the moment because there was not a choice), and would need to find good home tutors as a stop -gap measure. Any ideas to 1 or/and 2 would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there,
I'm an experience primary school teacher living the local area and came across your thread. I have recently been looking into creating resources for parents to use at home to support their children's learning, mainly via an online platform but with some opportunity for a personalised programme.
I specialise in EYFS, KS1 and lower KS2 age groups.
During the summer holidays, I offer private tuition in reading, writing and maths, but am also planning to offer workshops for parents/carers to engage their children and achieve accelerated academic progress. If any of this is of any interest, please do get in touch.
