Moving to Solihull town

Hi, So happy to have found Mumsnet! My husband and I and our 6 year old son are moving to Solihull. We are from Sweden and have never lived in England. We want to live in a charming part of town, near a good primary school. What is Solihull like to live in? Which schools are worth looking at and is it difficult to get a spot? Feeling a tad overwhelmed and would be so grateful for tips and info!

Hi LumLum. How exciting! Personally I love living in Solihull. It's not too big and not too small and within short distance of many beautiful areas of historical interest and nature, plus excellent shopping!

There are also many well regarded schools all over Solihull. Lots of lovely villages too such as Knowle, Dorridge, Lapworth, Hockley Heath, Earlswood with its lakes and the centre of Solihull is great with 3 excellent parks and lots to do for little ones.

I have only just taken over as local editor for Solihull and I am working at populating the site with things to do etc, so do keep checking back.

Thank you! Are there any particular primary schools that stand out? Is it difficult to get in to these schools? What areas would you say is most pleasant in Solihull? Thank you so much for your info!

Hi, only just found this local board myself. I live only a mile from the centre and its the perfect location for me. Close to the motorway, rail links, countryside and even Birmingham City Centre. Regarding to which particular part of Solihull a lot is down to what you can afford or what style of house you like so that helps to narrow things down a bit.

Schools are a touchy subject with me at the mo as I never thought about catchment areas when we moved so at the moment am having to deal with 2 different schools. Its worth going onto the Solihull Council website once you have decided on a rough area to see what schools is your catchment. Don't be fooled that it will be your closest. The area that I live in houses are snapped up as soon as they go on the market so its well worth really doing your research.

There are a lot of good schools and some bad. I don't want to publicly mention the bad ones on here cause its not right to do but if you wanted any more info am happy to help out.

Sarah.
