Moving to Walthamstow

Hi to one and all.
Live in North London at the moment with the folks. Married and had our first child and now on the house hunt. Have seen a couple lovely properties in and around Upper Walthamstow. Particularly just off the Forest Road just before the North Circular in and around the roads Woodstock/Ulverston/Castleton/Belle Vue.
Any advice / tips / warnings about the immediate area and Walthamstow in general thats not obvious at first glance?
Are there a lot of issues with catchment areas living here considering only Thorpe Park is the closest school in this area?

We live in Walthamstow at the moment but are looking to move. I've also considered this area as it seems a lot cheaper than the rest. The houses are lovely but what puts me off is that its along way from the tube and I'm not sure that many buses run from there. It is only 10 minutes to the overground, however.

I think Thorpe Hall is the only primary near there. Catchments for all schools are very tight in E17. However they are expanding Thorpe Hall and I think you'd be fine to get in in those roads. I think the school is good - I've never checked ...

Our children are already in primary so we're thinking about secondary now and Frederick Bremer is just on the doorstep.

The things I love about Walthamstow though are nearer to the centre so I'm reluctant to move away from there. But you make your home where you land and I think if we'd have started off somewhere different to where we are we'd have loved that too.

Good luck!

hey i lived near wood street for 2 years its def very fast to get to leytonstone central line 10-15 mins most of the good childcare is at this end of walthamstow
either woodside childrens centre or just learning .

the mothers hub has opened up just alomg wood street high street with activites for kids they are doing up the kids play ground.

On that square with playground and sprinklers is a great spanish cafe good food and very friendly to children.

i have moved to lyolds park and my commute to work isnt as straight foward.

A 5 mins walk from here and your at eppinfg forest. if you drive i recomend this area or if you dont its best to get on line delivery as supermarket isnt close by.

i love this area and chose it because of great value for money and the area is def improving

Hi,
I've just moved from Woodstock Road having lived there for 7 years. We loved it- all the houses have huge 75ft gardens and you're a few footsteps away from the biggest green space in London, Epping Forest. I personally believe for quality of life and families the best streets in E17. The streets are also a magnet for middle-class families with kids from Stoke Newington and Hackney.
My son went to Woodside nursery from 6 months old and they were fantastic. They loved him as their own! He's now at Woodside which has a new amazing head teacher Shane Tewes former head of outstanding Hillyfields. We moved to South Woodford as Redbridge has a amazing reputation for secondary education and especially if you're a boy Waltham Forest is scarily bad!
Small downside is that you're a long way from the tube.
Happy to answer any questions honestly! :-)
