Relocating is on the cards to CIRENCESTER

Hello,

I have had a good think before putting this up and am doing my research on good old Google.

We currently live in West London and my husband has been offered a really good job in Cirencester.

So relocating is on the cards….

I don’t know much about Cirencester and have always lived in London. We have children age 7 and 3 that currently go to a lovely prep school and have all are family base in London.

I don’t mind relocating. We are of black African origin and do not want to relocate to a town that are not welcoming and have prejudice views as coming from London my children have never been exposed to racism or prejudice in the community or at school.

I just honestly want to know what is like living in Cirencester.

What is the community like? will we have problems settling and what are the best schools?

I have had a look at small village state schools and really like Down Ampney C of E Primary School. What are other schools like?

Siddington Church of England Primary School

Ampney Crucis Church of England Primary School

North Cerney Church of England Primary School

Kemble Primary School, Cirencester

I know everywhere has its problems and London being number 1 for issues. However I just don’t want to relocate and have to start dealing with small-minded people and children experiencing bullying at school etc.….

I would be so grateful for honest replies as this is a big decision and don’t what to live to regret it…

Welcome to Cirencester! It is a lovely town and I hope you and your family will be happy here.
Moving is always a big deal. You are lucky to have school age children because the school gate is a great place to meet new people. You have picked out some good schools. Have a look at Rendcomb too. It has a nice mix of people.

I have friends in Kemble. Lovely village with great train links to London.

We're just up the road from Cirencester (in Stroud) so no direct experience of living in the town, but Stroud isn't that different and I must say I have never been aware of racism being a problem. Ethnic minorities are very much in the minority in the Cotswolds so your children could well be the only ones in their school.

Something that might also be worth bearing in mind when house hunting is secondary schools as it'll be no time at all before your eldest is considering where to go after primary. Again, I'm no expert on schools in Cirencester itself but others on here may be able to help more.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy the town.

Cirencester is a very friendly town....so don't be concerned. We relocated from London 18 months ago, and the quality of life doesn't compare. Just to have the freedom to stroll through town without worrying that your kids will be mown down at any moment by aggressive drivers/cyclists is a joy I'm still appreciating! Rest assured that it is not the back end of beyond, and people here appear pretty worldly and broad-minded. Schools generally of a very high standard. My kids are at Rendcomb, which probably has more of an international mix than the local state schools, so is worth a look. V friendly kids and parents. Best of luck to you.

We moved to Cirencester last year. We had massive problems getting the DC into local schools so ended up sending them to Chesterton - this is a really mixed school.

We moved from a tiny village primary and after having concerns that I hadn't picked this school and were sort of 'forced' into it I am really pleased. They are coping with my academic DC, my sporty DC and my special needs DC.

On paper it might not be the school you would choose but definitely worth a look.
