moving to Northwich

Hello (my original post disappeard Confused) I have two boys ages 11 and 7 and we are all moving up to Cheshire from Birmingham in the summer as my husband has got a new job in Northwich, I was originally going to wait until the boys had finished the school year but as #1 son will be starting high school in September I thought it might be a good idea to move after SATS so he can have a smooth transition, I have been frantically emailing all the local schools to ask about places and would appreciate any advice or tips about the surrounding areas.
thank you.

Hi, can I help? I am in Knutsford not far from Northwich!

Lindseyk74 · 27/02/2014 18:34

I'm going to have a look at Knutsford as see what the journey would be like. What are the schools like?

OP posts:
Voicesinmyear · 27/02/2014 18:44

Not in either town but if I was moving to one of them, I'd choose Knutsford everytime Smile

Texascake · 27/02/2014 21:05

Hi, I lived in Northwich for a few years, perhaps if you give us a general idea where his job is, we could suggest some nice areas in the right direction? The area around Gadbrook is traffic nightmare in the mornings, huge queues onto the business park for example.

Lindseyk74 · 28/02/2014 20:42

Hi All, husband starts work on Monday at Cheshire FA, Hartford Moss recreation Centre cw84bg.
He going to combine commuting and station over for a few months.
Thanks Lindsey.

Hartford is one of the best areas of Northwich. I'd avoid Castle/winnington if possible.
f you have young children, look at catchment for delamere primary. Tarvin and tarporley well worth a look, depending on budget. We are in Chester and DH commutes to Northwich daily, can take upto 45 mins. I can't help re: high schools in that area. I think Hartford high was ok, but I didn't have children when we lived there so wasn't so much of an issue for me at the time. Any other questions feel free to holler!

CheshireEditor · 08/03/2014 14:33

Knutsford to Northwich 20mns - easy peasy

Knutsford Academy excellent

I can help with Knutsford questions - so please PM me

Hi All,

we are tagging onto this conversation as we are looking to move to the area also and would like some advice on areas that are ok...we have 2 boys 2.5 and 8 months....we looked at weaverham and possibly rudheath and leftwich but would also consider being in the centre of Northwich or are we better to avoid being direct in the centre....we could stretch to £140k tops but really would like about £120k....we need somewhere that has a community feel with parent/toddler groups or similar and stuff going on as we have no friends or family in the area....thanks

Lindseyk74 · 18/03/2014 20:09

Hi vickyandmartin, are you looking on rightmove - I am daily but Im looking for rentals, in similar areas.
good luck x

Hi I live in Winnington, Northwich previously Knutsford and I grew up in Tarporley, so maybe I can help. I have lived in Winnington with my growing family now for 6 years and it is definitely worth a look. Our home is a beautiful Cottage which we love dearly. We have some fantastic neighbours and feel really settled, more settled then when we were in knutsford. I don't mean to offend anybody, but knutsford is a very small place when you live there, everybody knows every bodies business and if your not seen to be in the right "click" you are really frowned upon and even ignored at the schools! We live a simple relaxed life where both my husband and I work full time. Material things don't matter to us but when living in knutsford you have to have the right car, the right diamonds and watch etc etc ( I think you get the picture). I have all this but it's not what I am about or really interested in..... It's family life that matters and makes the memory's. Hartford will be our next location should we consider moving, that's a definite. There is a lovely church community, lovely schools, ( my son goes to kids count in the holidays and loves it there). He attends Witton Church Walk Primary School (had it's problems around 9 years ago but has come on leaps and bounds), my son is very academic and they have brought the best out in him. As for Secondary schools, I am lead to understand that Hartford is a firm favourite, The Grange however this is Independent has fantastic results and opportunities for pupils. I hope this helps and feel free to ask for any further info...Good luck house hunting!

CheshireEditor · 14/04/2014 13:26

No offence taken, however, I live in Knutsford (11 years+) and yes there is that as you describe to a teeny tiny degree but it is definately in the tiny minority, I live in a normal house and drive a 10 year old Audi! I have never been ignored in the playground, my children attend the local state schools. We are heavily involved in the local community with Scouting, rugby and football and I can honestly say, hand on heart; I have never encountered any 'clicks' or have been deemed not to have the right car or enough diamonds, or even been "frowned upon" You describe a stereo typical view not the normal day to day of hard working families who take pride in their environment and community. I too live a relaxed life and am not materialistic! It's like saying "those in Northwich are all chavs" which is not the case and not all people in Knutsford are "rich snooty snobs"

Politicallyincorrectmum · 14/04/2014 21:42

I clearly have offended you and for that I apologise. I wouldn't like to say I am "stereo typical", the comments made were all in my own opinion and made due to personal experience. And your very right the minority of people that have been born and bred in Northwich are "chavs" but then thats all they know and have been taught so we simply can't expect much more. I think personally though I would much prefer a "Chav" then a "rich snooty snob", that thinks wealth is having a mortgage at 93%, 30k on credit cards and two 40k+ cars. One would probably class me as a "chav" but at least one can be relaxed ones company and hold a conversation without feeling they are being judged.

Had a lovely day in sunny Northwich today, viewed 3 houses this morning and am still unsure what to do! Why do I like the priciest one!
Picked up forms from swimming baths so boys can do swimming lessons.
Walked into town centre had a subway and checked out the charity shops Smile

I've lived in Sandiway& Cuddington for 20 years and had 3 kids go through the local schools & sixth form which were all excellent. It pays to live close to the schools so you can meet up with local people and connect with them socially especially as you will need new links to help you all to feel happier here. Sandiway& Cuddington has 2 housing estates being built, has vacancies at the 2 primary schools which both feed to the same high school. it has shops, library, GP and a lovely park with sports and cubs etc. it has bus and train links and the back country road leads to Moss Farm. You can access country walks as well as the M6 and M56 within 15 minutes.
Sounds perfect for you but I am biased!

CheshireEditor · 29/04/2014 13:05

Lindseyk74 - Can't beat 0.7 miles from school each day on the school run, if you can walk, perfect! And both my children learned to swim at Moss Farm Leisure Centre, brilliant teachers. Lostock Gralam lovley too, never quite sure how to say it, as in 'grey-lam' or 'graa-lam' as have heard it both ways.

PIM - you did not offend me as I clearly stated, just putting the majority view forward, I should know and I live here. Not quite sure where you get your financial insight from regarding those of us who live here, but each to there own opinion, however judgemental [hmmm]

Hello all, good news have a house now in winnington and moving up at the end of May. (Had to say no to the one I fell in love with Hmm) but still only a mile(ish) from school.
Thank you so much for everyone's help and advice on here and in PMs I'm sure I'll be back on just with a different thread Wink
I have some application forms for swimming clubs at Moss Farm for the boys so that's nice to hear.
Xxx
