Which pram is best for jogging in the park from newborn?

My second LO is on the way, due June 2014. And I am now looking into prams again. Had 7 for my first LO and got rid of them all.
I have a brand new Maclaren XT. But I am not sure it will be fit for a newborn. I would like to have something that would sport my newborn's back a bit more.
I am a running fanatic. And I would not like to stop it due to having a newborn (is it my wishful thinking?). I would like to start as soon as I get a green light from GP.
Thus I am looking something ideal to jog with in the park mainly Richmond park with a small baby in it.
I have looked at different prams in shops and now even more confused.
Please, tell me about your experience.
I do not need a double one as my 1st LO will be five by the time the second one will come.
Thank you all for your insights.

I think you need to be careful about when you start running with a newborn in a pram - it could be a very bumpy journey for the baby. I'd wait until the baby had some measure of head control at least, but probably longer. I was lucky enough to be able to exercise without my DD around though - I understand the impetus to get back as quickly as possible!

There's a mum around here who runs with the City Jogger buggy with massive race wheels and suspension - it's the one endorsed by Paula Radcliffe. Only suitable for decent pavements though as the wheels are very slim and light.

I wouldn't go off-road with a small but mountain buggies are good for off-road terrain.

I wouldn't run with a buggy at all because running with my arms in front of me would strain my already dodgy biomechanics too much. Bear in mind that you'll have to adapt to running this way!

I recommend starting another thread in the pushchair section where you'll get better traffic.

Hi. I thought the recommendation for running with baby is not til 6m as they don't have the neck strength til then?

There are multiple buggies suitable for running. I'd develop a short list that meets your criteria and then check eBay.

Mountain are good
Terrain XC
City

For specialist running buggy, check out Bob

Also, for the period before the 6m there are some good Buggyfit classes in the area. I didn't do the Richmond park one but did do the fabulous ones in bushy park and thoroughly recommend the instructor Kate Smart as a very good person to advise on postnatal fitness.

Another place to ask the question could be on fetcheveryone.com where there is a good pregnancy thread.

Our running buggy is ancient, unbranded, third hand and given to us by a friend but if I had cash and was choosing new, I'd look at BOB.

Consider fixed wheel vs the option to unfix. Consider if it is your only buggy or just a running one.

Thank you girls for all the replies.
I did not expect as detailed ones though and I really appreciate your time.
With my first I did not start doing any exercise until my DC turned 2 and started nursery and I had horrible backaches. But as soon as I started I was feeling millions times better and I was thinking why I did not start before.
Hence I was thinking I do not want to wait that long with this one. I jogged till 16 weeks pg and now just sticking to PG yoga and PG pilates.
I looked online and my choices were down to
-City Jogger Elite
-Out n about nipper
-Bob

The first two because I can put a carrycot in it.
The latter one I like the wheels, but DH hates it.
It will not be my only one. I already bought a Maclaren XT with all the newborn inserts. But now think may be I need smth else for first 3 months...
As they are quite light and good in public transport.
But after reading you girls I am in two minds.
May be I am too optimistic and doing the buggy fitness is a better choice until 3 or 6 months. Recommended age to start to jog with baby.
Ah I am already dreaming buggies...

Back to search and ask the fellow mums.
If you see and pregnant lady asking if you jogged with your buggy that could be me Blush
