Family Doctor (GP) in Brighton?

Hello, I am looking for a GP in the Kemptown / Queen's Park /Hanover area. At our current practice I never get to know the GPs before they move on, and have had a few consultations that were unhelpful and misleading.
I'm looking for the kind of GP practice where they remember you, and you can build up a relationship with any of the doctors - I miss our old family GPs, both of whom knew us and could remember who we were!

Can any recommend a GP or practice please? Thanks.

TBH I think you are going to really struggle with that as its a city centre, most are over subscribed anyway so not easy to get into. I had to write off & have one allocated after moving here as none would take me on & doctors do move on.

Our one is at Ardingly Court, they do take on new patients & some good doctors there, but some have left over the years, though pleased to say it has been the bad ones & some on maternity leave, so not ideal, but for where it is, not too bad

Thanks very much for your answer, much appreciated.

As it happens, that is my current surgery, the one I'm not so entralled with!

Never mind - possibly I'm just expecting too much - our old family doctors there (who retired some years ago now) were probably unreplaceable, maybe that type of family GP care just doesn't exist these days.

Thanks again for your help.

Lol - I will be watching this with interest then as Ive thought about moving too, but had hellish problems getting a Doctor at all when I moved here, though believe it or not they have improved since then.

Got to admit Ive not been best pleased with them more lately too though & they have made mistakes with me too & Ive had to diagnose myself & fight for referrals - which proved me right - making a complaint helped, but not following it through to the end, if that makes sense though, it let them know I knew they had messed up & I expected better in future & I'm finding certain doctors much better now - still too high a staff turn over though & too hard to see GP of choice & I'm not enamoured with my usual GPs maternity cover at all.

But that said Ive heard far worse from friends with other local doctors, so do get the impression its just an oversubscribed city GP problem.

Finding Dr Talia is very good though

That's interesting - I also have struggled with being taken seriously there and getting referrals, including having to strongly insist on being referred for a back Xray, being told I was over-reacting. It turned out I had a compression fracture of my spine!

I haven't seen Dr Talia. Thanks a lot for your helpful comments :)

No problem -

very interesting as sounds like the same problems I've had then - they refused to take my acid reflux problems seriously for years, all just stressHmm - new maternity cover Dr Macmillan - (who is also great & is there again I think) organised a blood test without my even asking - I'd given up by that point - turns out I had H. Pylori infection - treat & still problems & after a very bad attack had me in A&E - on A&E advice I insisted & had to fight for a scan - turns out I had gall stones & now Gastro Dr says Ulcers too.

I had similar with my young daughter pat on the head & told not to transfer my own health problems onto her Angry - that was after a serious misdiagnosis with her too - one that could have killed her - that I had complained about - I complained again & got the referral that had her diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome

Since these incidents I have found them to be MUCH better with both me & DD - but like you they were serious cock ups - maybe put it in writing to the practice manager & stick to seeing the better GPs

I'm hoping I'm remembering Dr Talias name correctly, its similar, she sounds Eastern European & has really impressed me with her knowledge of muscle structures, physio, skeletal problems etc, so I always ask for her with DD & often for myself too - so sounds like she could be a good choice for you too.

I should have added - I think they are a fund holding practice, so a lot of it is about budget on the advice if a Doctor friend I've found asking for referrals after the books have gone in for the tax year - so April & October gets you a MUCH better response as they have more money to spend - not always practical of course, but works for some things
