Cranleigh- tell me all!

Saw a beautiful house there today and am working on dh to put an offer in (he actually thinks you go & have 2nd and 3rd look and then mull it over for a week or so. Ha. He's so wrong it's untrue). In fact I am going to FORCE dh to put an offer in (he's the one sorting the mortgage).

Anyway, to help convince him please tell me about the wonderful benefits of Cranleigh for us (we have a 13mo ds, only the one car that he'll use to commute to Woking with, leaving me at the mercy of public transport and I am only working 2 days a week so baby activities..)

Much, much much appreciated Wine

Cranleigh is nice and has everything you need day to day and a good few pubs, restaurants, coffee shops and supermarkets. Clothes shopping you need to go into Guildford though.

I wouldn't want to travel to Woking though. The journey through Guildford can be pretty horrendous at rush hour. I did cranleigh to Guildford and used to make sure that I got in to work before 8 otherwise it could take ages. You could try a cross country route to working but I would test the journey first during rush hour.

Ooh have to agree with above. Lovely lovely place to live in but traffic horrendous from there to Woking and I think (though not entirely sure so don't shoot me if wrong) but the primary not brilliant if that's something you need to think about. Mind you, your baby young and things change v quickly! General area gorgeous though, good luck.

Thanks. Going back to see the house tomorrow so trying to pull all the information together. dh would usually leave the house by 730 at the latest anyway to get to work, so that's not really too much of an issue, and so long as he can be back a few nights for bath time.

If I wanted to get to London then, what are the buses and trains like? Am just trying to work everything out, in terms of time it will take. Is it best to go to Shalford by bus and then train it to Waterloo? How long do the buses generally take- have had a look on the timetables, but real experience would be invaluable here!

Also, what are nurseries and childcare options (nanny/childminder etc) like in Cranleigh? Also groups that go on that I could take ds to?

Incidentally, does anyone do any cycling? Just wondering about the cycle networks and whether there's a good route from Cranleigh to Shalford?

No idea about childcare as lived there before children.

Cycle path - down's link runs along through Cranleigh. Can cycle from Cranleigh to Guildford via Shalford on a lovely off road route that is flat and really good cycling partly alongside the river Wey. (Perfect for a family cycle ride.) Can also go South from Cranleigh and follow the link all the way down to Shoreham on the south coast although the path is a bit broken up and needs a mountain bike for bits closer to Shoreham.
