Hi We are moving to london from hong kong, where m 9 year old is with an american international school. Have been researching on schools and place to live.. my queries are A) whats a affordable / popular area for expats to live with high quality schooling around the area. (independant schools ) B)How is the american school of london rated, in terms of academics and attitude of kids, anyone with a personal experience, your inputs will help, C) Has anyone switched their kids from american to Uk curriculum and the pros and cons of doing the same.. Thank you so very much in advance..

Hi srv,
What sort of budget do you have for housing? Hard to know what affordable means as it's different for everyone! There are some really great places to live in Camden borough though (Dartmouth Park, Hampstead, Highgate Village etc) so it's a good place to start looking. Can't help on most of the school questions I'm afraid but there are lots of good independent schools around (slightly depends if your 9 year old is a boy or girl).

Hi, We recently moved to London. Some parts of London can be challenging. But we found the Camden Borough very nice and would recommend Highgate village, Tuffnel Park or Belsize Park. I have heard that Highgate has good private schools, you can find out more by checking the government website www.ofsted.gov.uk/schools/for-parents-and-carers/find-school-inspection-report

Thank you estuary mouth, iwe are looking at a semi detached house 15 minutes radius around the american school in London . We have a budget of 4000 rent per month. We are looking for a spacious abt 2000 sq feet or more house. What are the reasonable family friendly areas with a village feel around the american school in st johnwood. Any info will beist appreciated thx

You could try west or south Hampstead , jubilee line tube takes you direct to St. John's wood or drive down abbey road or finchley road, also lot of independent schools in Hampstead generally concentrated near fitzjohns avenue which is also relatively close , and areas more affordable than St. John's wood or Hampstead both of which are quite expensive even relative to your budget, terraced houses in west Hampstead e.g around narcissus road or garden apartments with communal garden in south Hampstead near Canfield gardens area

Hi srv123! Perhaps you have already moved, but the American school has a great reputation and is very experienced in getting their graduates in top US colleges. Your alternative is Southbank International School. There is a fantastic choice of private and state schools in North London, but the school system for boys in the UK is pretty complicated. To discuss your options I think it would be worthwhile paying a fee and talking to the Advisory service of the Good School Guide (see the website), they are very good and experienced.
