Cottenham-Addenbrookes commute

We're still looking at houses and Cottenham is another village we are considering. It seems nice, but I'm just wondering how the commute will be into Cambridge. Specifically I would be going to Trumpington Park and Ride (for Addenbrookes), so would need to go through Histon, west on the A14 and then south on the M11. Does anyone have an idea how long this would take in rush hour? Length of the commute could be a deal breaker for us.

I go the opposite way, I live in Trumpington and take my son to nursery near Histon then I get back on the A14 to go to work towards Newmarket or I go back home to Trumpington. I would not recommend going through Histon at all. It's very congested. Equally bad is to get on the A14 east at the Girton interchange. However if you get on the a14 at the Girton/Oakington junction and immediately change lanes to go on the M11, it's usually ok. There's slow traffic again when you come off the M11 towards Addenbrookes, but only a few minutes delay.

That helps, thanks. So am I right in thinking it would be about 30 minutes to Trumpington Park and Ride? Google Maps says 18 minutes without traffic, so I'm hoping 30 minutes at rush hour would be doable.

My colleague at Addenbrookes commutes from Cottenham, I think he gets two buses, changing in the city centre. Sorry not sure how long it takes him.

I would say 30 to 40 minutes in normal bad traffic. Sometimes traffic is slow to go through Oakington too because of the traffic calming restrictions and you lose another 10 min or so there

OK thanks. 40 minutes would be on the long side considering I'd need to get the bus from Park and Ride to Addenbrookes. Hmm, perhaps Cottenham is not such a great idea.

You could leave a bike at the park and ride - then it is just a few minutes down the guided busway to Addenbrookes

The other option is get to Histon (cycling?) then get the guided bus from there. One of my friends lives in Histon and is a nurse at Addenbrookes and it seems to work for them. Otherwise there is the park and ride at Longstanton for the guided bus, or you can park on the street nr the guided bus stop in Histon

I've got a friend in Oakington (near Cotttenham) who uses the guided bus to get to Addenbrookes. She swears by it. Don't know how long it takes though.

I'm in Haddenham, a14 west towards Newmarket 100%, takes me about 40 mins in everyday traffic to get to the Rosie (addenbrooks maternity) never ever go through Cambridge!!! Will take 3 hours... Past experience hell lol
