Primary schools and where to live

Hello

We are shortly moving to Cambridge and will be looking for a school for our 5 year old. I will be working at Addenbrooke's so we ideally we would like to live somewhere that side of the city and are looking at the villages to the South and East of the hospital.

There are very few schools with places, we have identified Fulbourn, Great Abingdon Primary and Thirplow. There are even fewer rental houses (we will be buying in a year or so). We are looking at houses in Fulbourn, Whittlesford, Sawston and Ickleton.

Any suggestions about commuting to Addenbrooke's from those villages, the schools, and the villages. For example, is it too far to commute each day from Ickleton to Thirplow (it seems a lovely school).

Thanks

It's certainly possible to commute from Fulbourn to Addenbrookes, in the car it would take about 10-15 mins, but I know quite a few people who cycle.

There are two new primary schools being built in Trumpington which is very close to Addenbrookes, so depending on your budget, it would be worth considering.

It takes only about 15 minutes at most to travel by car from the Abingtons to Addenbrookes outside the rush hour. Unfortunately, during the rush hour period traffic from the Gogs roundabout (near Babraham Road P & R) into Cambridge is very slow so it can take far longer between 7:30 - 9:00 in the morning.
