Primary schools in Trowbridge

Hi. Does anyone have experience of applying for primary schools in Trowbridge. I don't want my son to go to our neaest but I love the second nearest and it would really suit him. Thrre are many decent primary schools a mile or so away, I just want to be sure he doesn't end up at the one nearest! The admissions policy suggests location only matters a little bit. Is this really the case?

hallo empress! once your son is school age you should be contacted with application details. You can make your first choice and a reserve choice. The majority get their first choice unless it's oversubscribed, then they tend to give priority to those within the catchment [which you may well be] but not necessarily based by who's closest. They do give siblings priority, so if they have a big sister/brother already in the school then they get priority. Ugh, it's been a while as there are quite a few other factors.

I've got B into a preschool that feeds into the school I prefer, if that helps I am none to sure, we've got 2 years until she'll be going to school and we are expecting chaos as the village is having another two new housing developments and they are hoping to complete two large housing developments by the time she starts school. Places are already tight as it is, I keep seeing on the news that there are more children than school places in the 2015/16 academic year.

We are thinking about moving at some point in the next few years, so it may all change again :S

Thanks Shiney. It's all so stressful isn't it?! And all the decisions about where we move to are dependent on this as we want to choose somewhere and just stay there rather than have to keep moving. Wiltshire's admissions policy states that your pre school and siblings make no difference and when distance is taken into account (which only happens when there aren't enough places for everyone who wants them) it's a straight line distance according to the map. This is quite good as I do feel that there are quite a lot of good schools to choose from and we're nit necessarily doomed to get his nearest. But I really do want to move a few blocks away just to be sure!

And on top of all that DH keeps muttering about moving closer to Bristol where I understand the school situation is a nightmare.

My son would be the 2016/17 intake I think. He's a baby boomer. I do worry what this means for him in terms of everything being over subscribed.
