The London Assembly held a meeting yesterday on school places in the capital which might be of interest to Lewisham mumsnetters.
Our guests included Frankie Sulke, executive director for children and young people at Lewisham Council. Our Education Panel heard how:
-There will be a cumulative shortage of 118,000 school places across the capital up until 2016
-The crisis in school places in the capital is being fuelled by a sustained growth in birth rate, more families staying in London and larger families.
-There will be a big rise in demand for secondary school places in London for the next 10 years
-Extra capital funding is £1bn less than London needs to address the school places shortfall
