This can't be right - can it?

Hi. This is a 'dipping a toe in the water' post really but it may be something some of you identify with.

I've been the recipient of what I can only call apathetic antenatal and postnatal 'care'. I feel so passionately about what I see as the lack of genuine care shown that I'm trying to establish if this was a localised issue for myself or whether its more endemic across the country.

As I say, I'm only really putting my feelers out at this point, trying to get a picture of what other parents have experienced and seeing if there is an issue that needs addressing.

For those who wish to share their experiences and who may feel that their physical and/or mental health was compromised during the ante or postnatal period, I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this

Hello - yes I felt very passionately about this back in 2003 when I had diabolical experience with birth and postnatal care of me and my first child, and addressed it with the services involved (elsewhere in the country) at the time. Fortunately I had much better care with my youngest in 2009 in Exeter.

Still particularly interested in mental health of expectant and new mothers.

Thanks for your message CiderPunk and giving an insight into your experiences. Like you, my dire experiences were in another part of the country and I wonder which part (in case its the same area?!).

Like you, i've addressed the issues but can't help but think that such poor practices shouldn't occur in the first instance. It makes me feel sad and annoyed in equal measure! And very worried for mothers who may be suffering alone.

I have to dash right now but didn't want to read this and run -perhaps i could PM you later on if you fancied discussing this further?

yes do feel free to PM me. Mumsnet run lots of campaigns along these lines so you're in the right place. Are you getting better support now?
