Southfields mummy giving up good job to look after my own son- wanting to become a child minder

Hi,

I currently have a 2 month old son, Joshua and was planning to go back to my good job at the financial times newspaper in April next year.

Here comes the problem. I absolutely love being with my son everyday and being a mum and can't fathom the thought of going back to work next year. It won't be possible to work the same hours I was doing before as It would mean I won't be able to see Joshua ever and we also won't be able to get any childcare that covers these hours ( unless we become spectacularly rich in the next 7 months!).

So here's my idea I wanted to coin with fellow mums to see if it would be worth pursuing. I was thinking of becoming a childminder as from next year where I will look after Joshua whilst also taking on someone else's child (of a similar age) to look after 3-4 days per week. I absolutely love looking after children and it would mean I can do something I enjoy whilst still spending time with josh and getting some income. Thoughts?

I have looked at all the usual nurseries in southfields and feel they are far too formal and big to ensure my child will be getting the attention I would like him to get. Let alone the fees for full time places being quite high.

Hence my idea to stay with josh and also take on another child. The benefit to parents being that they can be rest assured I would be offering the best possible childcare given I would also be looking after my own son who of course gets nothing but the best. I would be doing a range of activities everyday to ensure they socialise with other children such as playgroups, rhyme time, baby and toddler groups etc but have the resource to give both children a lot of individual attention. I would offer a far more creative, nurturing and stimulating environment in comparison to the way the rigid and in personal nurseries seem to be.

Plus I would be far more reasonable in terms of cost to create that elusive balance between high quality child care which doesn't break the bank. This is from my personal experience, the huge problem with the current childcare on offer.

Any initial thoughts on this? I would greatly appreciate feedback and possible concerns parents would have as I'm seriously considering this which would mean I would put money into becoming offsted recognised etc.

Thank you,

Rosie
