Hello,

We're hoping to get a place for our 2 DC at Honeywell, higher up in years. 2 and 3 so we should stand a better chance than at the Reception scrum!

We're moving from private school which we just cannot afford with another child on the way. However we're hopeful we can afford private secondary. Has anyone done this and how did you find this process. Did you feel at a distinct disadvantage to families that had gone private all the way through?

Also, has anyone else moved from the private sector into Honeywell school recently, and how did you find they compared?

Hello Samsonitee, We've done exactly what you're describing. Our little girl was in private school. We received an offer from Honeywell to start her halfway through year two (last year). If we accepted within three weeks of the offer our youngest would also get a place under the sibling scheme. Even so, last Christmas was very tough, we kicked the argument back and forth and eventually decided the Honeywell offer was too good to pass up, for us it was a case of head over heart. We are lucky because our little girl takes everything in her stride and made the transition very easily. We'd made fantastic friends at her last school, we were quite a gang but we had to come to terms with the fact that it was her education and NOT our social life that mattered. So we made the switch and went from a neat, small playground to a breezy, noisy playground. We don't have anything like the social life at Honeywell and we still hang out with our old friends from private school, maybe that will change with our youngest at Honeywell now, all starting down the same path at the same time. It's our intention to go private at eleven (we always felt 11-18 was the business end of the deal). As for Honeywell, the teaching is as good as you'll get anywhere and the parents are the same parents you'll find in the private sector. Regarding where they go next from what I read all choices are still open to you. Almost half the kids at Honeywell go private at secondary age, the remainder choose to stay and support the state system or can't afford it or wouldn't want to pay for it, so the stats speak for themselves. In short there are no disadvantages, you will need to do some Kumon or similar for Common Entrance as you probably would have guessed but you have the same range of options you always had. Good luck with your decision.
