We are moving from Australia to Bristol in September and need to organise a school for my daughter. We will be staying in the city broad quay so need help with schools. She will be 5 at the end of August so not sure what year she will be in?

Your daughter will be entering Year 1 in September 2013 - as an August child she will be one of the youngest in her year group. Will you be looking for state schools (non fee paying) or Independent? If you need a state school place I think you will be able to approach schools directly - once you have an address in Bristol, and ask if they have a place in their Year 1 class for Sept 2013. Classes are restricted to 30 children at this age and so you cannot automatically gain a place at whichever school you like. Alternatively you should be able to phone Bristol City Council and find out which schools have a vacant place available - they should be able to tell you the closest school to your home that has space. If this is not to your liking, you can be placed on any waiting lists you like. You can also opt to home school until a suitable place becomes available if you can. If you put your Bristol postcode into www.rightmove.co.uk, and just click on any property - there is a map feature on which you can highlight all local primary schools. If you click on each one you can gain information such as recent Ofsted Inspection report gradings, size of school etc..
I don't know South/central Bristol state schools, so I hope someone comes along who can give you specific information about schools if you need it.
Bristol has several good independent schools to choose from. Bristol Grammar School is probably the closest, Clifton High, Clifton College, Red Maids and Badminton School all have great reputations and I am sure would have space.

Broad Quay is a street in the city centre. If by "staying" there you mean that this will be a long term address (rather than a hotel) you can use this to apply for schools. Schools you may wish to consider are: St George's Brandon Hill, St Michael's on the Mount primary or south of the river St Mary Redcliffe primary or Holy Cross primary (catholic).

Thanks for your help. Yes we will most likely be living in a city apartment for the next couple of years so looking or schools in the area for my daughter.
