Hi everyone...this was to carry on our discussion from the thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1649990-Any-North-Lancashire-South-Cumbria-Mums-to-Be-Out-There

Oh, just out if interest, are any of you lancs/Cumbria people on FB? We could set up a group page to keel in touch - arrange meets/offer advice (while I ask loads if questions as a 1st time mum to a bloody difficult baby) etc?

Just a thought, no worries if no one is interested.x

PaleHousewife · 02/02/2013 23:19

Yea im up for that!

Diva, its caused a huge hoohah in barrow. Ive a few friends due to pop shortly, and tbh it makes me glad my family is complete and im out if the maternity system here. When i had my baby son 18wks ago it was all agency staff, and the lady who delivered me was from london, she came up to work for a week and went back! A friend of mine had planned a vbac but now has to go to lancaster for a section. Imagine having to drive an hour home a couple of days after a csection, with a newborn, down the motorway and a590, and those are the people fortunate enough to have a car! What are other people supposed to do!

Wetoopere · 03/02/2013 08:44

I'm booked in 4 weeks and v scared about the whole thing.

They have said they will move people to Barrow/kendal once they are stable post c-section so that could be interesting. I've said ill go home rather than transfer to barrow then home.

Sammit7169 · 03/02/2013 09:45

am up for facebook.
Makes me glad am booked in for blackpool!

PaleHousewife · 03/02/2013 19:14

Surely this exercise will cost more in transportation costs than it saves?

Wetoopere · 03/02/2013 20:00

And all the MWs having to travel with labouring mothers.

Flo2312 · 03/02/2013 20:13

I don't think the barrow thing is about costs though is it? It's a complete failing by the management and maybe because it will increase costs it will get sorted asap? Cynical and optimistic thought maybe.

Ill see what my MW says about it friday.

Wetoopere I hope all goes well wherever it takes place. The AN tours for RLI are on the babymaze website, let me know if you want the link although I guess your MW has told you when they are?

Also up for FB. Kafri I hope your DS settles soon.

I am still hopeful to be there on Friday am as I am DC free but my pelvis is playing up loads and walking hurts so I will 100% confirm nearer the time.

PaleHousewife · 03/02/2013 21:51

I think it is about costs ultimately, as in order to keep up staffing levels they were using loads of agency staff

Wetoopere · 03/02/2013 22:28

flo don't have a MW. Doubt the consultant will think of that to contact me individually.
Will be arranging a tour & need to discuss birth plan with someone in power as I'm on crutches/wheelchair and need a lot of extra support while I'm there.

Wetoopere · 04/02/2013 13:13

Can't get hold of myMHmw & realised I have to have a tour this week or in 21/2 weeks ( childcare/someone to take me as its going to be 4h+) which means ill be anxious much longer. Just looked on the baby maze site ( thanksflo) and can't believe how much more lancaster offers re antenatal classes. Barrow is 2 a month( one day job) and there's loads at Lancaster.

Flo2312 · 04/02/2013 13:21

palehousewide Course, agency staff would have cost a fortune and I imagine so will recruitment. Angry

Wetoopere Can you go this week? You might feel better going now to get your bearings?

DisplacedDiva · 04/02/2013 13:41

I'd be up for FB...

Palehousewife Wetoopere Hope they have enough midwives to run back and forth....

It will be about costs in the long run...the costs involved in bringing Barrow up to standard. But will cost more in the long run to do this half-arsed solution.

Flo Hope to see you on Friday... I'm having fun with pain but determined to go and do something!

Wetoopere they are going to need to sort things out for you before the date. Maybe a little footstamping might be needed to get them to take you seriously....

Lots of AN at Lancaster, and also NCT at Uni...

I would contact AIMS if i was due to give birth in barrow. They will advice your legal rights

PaleHousewife · 04/02/2013 14:37

*advise

Wetoopere · 04/02/2013 15:10

When I was googling stuff last night I found that RLI wasn't graded as sufficient in some areas Shock

I've been phoning MHMW but don't think she's in today. Have also phoned the woman who does the an tours. There's one wed am at 10am ( struggle to get there then) but I've an emergency appt at FGH at 9:30.
Am prepared to cancel thurs appt at FGH to go if I can. Am dreading how much this will cost in petrol/parking etc too.

DisplacedDiva · 04/02/2013 18:21

Wetoopere I'm not particularly happy about giving birth at RLI really.... But for you this is so unfair. How are people supposed to cope with the extra petrol/childminding/parking/hassle? Plus it's presuming you have your own transport....

Wetoopere · 04/02/2013 19:20

Update!

no ambulances

Wetoopere · 04/02/2013 19:22

I wouldn't mind the going there if it wasn't for the anxiety and the fact I had just persuaded myself FGH wasn't that bad.

Actually at the moment it could beRLI or FGH as they've no idea where ill be in a month. So that's worse

Kafri · 05/02/2013 10:12

Righto folks,

Will set up a FB group.

PM me and I'll give you my name to find me on FB and I'll invite you to the group.
