St Pauls C of E Primary School

Hi, we've just moved to outskirts of Cambridge and failed to get kids (going into yr 3 and 4) into any of the village schools we had listed. Apparently there are spaces at St Paul's C of E primary school in town (Coronation St), which would actually be really convenient for me as I will be working near there. It had a good Ofsted in 2008 but there has been a change of head since then and I'm looking for up to date information about the school now? Can anyone help? As you can tell, time is ticking by before the beginning of term..... Any information very gratefully received.....

I only have experince from 1995 - 2000 but it was lovely then - my eldest dd went there. I have to say that I've heard it's not quite so good nowadays but that really is only heresay. Have a look round - that may well help!

I've heard positive things about the school and certainly it's worth a visit.

Again, only grapevine, but people are not thrilled with the new head. That said, they have left their kids there so it can't be so bad! I don't think there are any really bad schools in Cambridge, so why not bite the bullet - you can always move to village schools as and when places come up. It's also a feeder school for Parkside, isn't it? Worth considering if you have a child in Y4... If you don't have any school places currently you may as well take these - it's certainly not one of the schools one might traditionally be wary of.

It would be our catchment school, but for the moment DS is too small. Howevr for my neighbours (for whom it is also the catchment school) most have been very happy there, even with the new head. There is one who has moved her children however as she felt it was not individualised enough.

It's small and friendly and the children who i seeplaying in the streets in the school vicinty are all polite, and friendly.

Bumping this as we are moving to Cambridge next year and St Paul's will be our catchment area school for our son. Any more current views on the school from current (or recent) parents? We love the idea of him being about to walk (about 5 mins!) to school and back, but we're not religious, so a little concerned about the comments in 2009-10 that the new head (no longer new if he's still there of course) had ushered in a new, more religious tone. Thanks!

Following up on this thread - we've moved to Cambridge now and our son started at St Paul's earlier this year. While it's a bit Christian for us, we can report the school is really excellent. The head does seem a bit eccentric, but very dedicated and the kids seem to love him. The other teachers (at least the ones we have interacted with) all also seem great. School is a little tired looking in places, but the facilities are great and that's more to do with recent government budgets than anything else.
