Hi:) Im polish:))and Im a doctor myself- junior still but I did not like 6 weeks check done by GP. In my country babies from birth are under paediatricians care and have been regularly checked regarding their psycho-motor development. I thought it would be a good idea-if possible- to find a specialist who would be able to look after my baby and who knows what he s talking about:))

You can usually see NHS doctors privately, you just ring their secretary & ask if it's possible to make a private booking.

Expect to pay at least £80 per 10-20 minute visit. The ped will probably tell you there's no need to see them, just go back to HV+GP offered free & locally. And you may struggle to find a normally NHS ped who will offer routine services (like innoculations). You might be happier looking at something like private medical care package in your area, which probably means BUPA (google to find their nearest hospital, ring up & ask if they offer routine baby checks) or BMI.

You might even have to travel into London.

I don't think you'll find what you seek asking around on MN, especially not this time of yr.

Very ironic, discussion on R4 just now about conditions being over-diagnosed & over-treated & detected too early or when they are never likely to progress to anything important (!)

Thanx for your replies:) the thing is that as medic I worry too much due to knowledge I have:(but that is the price I have to pay for my career choice:( unfortunately GP did not answer my questions and I think for 1st time mother he supposed to; the differences between our countries' medical care are just killing me and that is why I need reassurance, I survived pregnancy being looked after only by midwife- in Poland G&O looks after you from the beginning your pregnancy and after:) then baby has regular checks by paediatrician- it s not about over-diagnosing but preventing- here after 6weeks check you can do whatever you want as nobody cares how your baby is developing:( so sad.
