Hello, please help, we are coming to Edinburgh for a few days on Friday of this week, can anyone recommend places to eat that are child friendly? Anywhere in Edinburgh, st Andrews etc surrounding areas?

Thank you so much for your help

Lynnette

Guiliano's on Union Place is fab - it doesn't look much from outside, but we took a chance and went in last year when we were on holiday in Edinburgh. The food was excellent, very reasonably priced and the staff were AMAZING. We didn't go in with kids, but they made such a fuss of us I am quite sure that children would be made very welcome!

Carnies Fruit Farmnear Cupar is gorgeous for food and is fun to visit. Pizza express on North Bridge is a favourite with my 2.

Where are you staying? What type of food do you like? What ages are your children?

If you like chinese, The Beijing in Danderhall is fantastic!

Brilliant selection of food, hot and tastes great and they have a chocolate fountain Grin

La Favorita in Leith is child friendly as is the Vittoria restaurant in the city centre if you like Italian. We often have lunch in Vittoria (or the nearby Pizza Express on George IV bridge) when we go to the National Museum of Scotland (worth a visit) as it's really nearby.

Vittorias then the Museum, is a great tip.

Wagamama on Lothian road is decent. Bruntsfield, Morningside and Stockbridge areas are yummy mummy central.

Favorita on leith walk is great! Giuliano is good with kids but food isn't very good, it's very dated.
Yo sushi in Harvey nix is great also!

It would be wise to pre book - restaurants are always stowed out at Festival time.

Mimi's bake house in leith is fab for lunch! Amazing home made cakes, and really lovely soups and sandwiches made to order. It is also very trendy and popular so you are best to get there early!

Howies in the west end is also excellent- good home made scottish inspired food. The outsider on george 4th bridge is nice for burgers etc, and there is a great Chinese/ japanese on Lothian road called izzy- it's on the left hand side as you head towards the meadows.

If you are heading out of Edinburgh, craigies farm shop on the way to south queensferry have a lovely coffee shop with a small outdoor play area and toys etc for wee ones, they also do great breakfasts and a variety of hot lunches. Hopetoun estate farm shop is also a great place to pick up stuff for a picnic or BBQ.

The Dome on George Street is also very nice, but a bit more formal, and I also like Montpelliers in bruntsfield- they do two main meals for £10.

The joly at the top of leith walk is great. Very well priced too. Lunch is a set menu for £5.95 if I remember correctly, but can be very busy, especially weekends/during the festival.

I agree with Guiliano's too, I like the one at the shore too. They are very relaxed with children and the kids make their own pizza which always goes down well.

Little Italy in St Andrews (2 Logies Lane) is good for kids and adults, the food is always really fresh and tasty. The Clubhouse at The Old Course also have a good menu for children, it's good for a afternoon bite to eat (not so much in evening), it's close to the beach and has lovely views of the golf course too.

Enjoy!
