Good places to cycle with children?

I have two preschool children who still cycle with stabilisers. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some good places to take them for a cycle ride both in Cambridge and surrounding areas? We have been to Milton Country Park which is great, but it would be lovely to have some alternatives. We live on the South side of Cambridge so anything out of town would be great too. Thank you.

Have you tried cycling down to the Shelfords? There's a separate cycle path from Addenbrookes down to Great Shelford which is very child friendly.

How about Coton footpath from West Cambridge (cafe at Hauser forum is good starting place)? Could cycle up to Coton park and back.

Thank you nosleep. I didn't know of this one and I remember there was quite a nice pub in Coton where we could maybe stop for lunch too, which is always a good incentive!

Roman road is good? It's "off road" though (not paved)

A bit further afield, there's a cycle path going north from Bury St Edmunds to Thurston. It goes alongside a fast road (with a thick hedgerow between cycle path and road), but it does cross the road at several points, and also a train line. It's 99% away from roads etc, apart from those 2 or 3 places where it crosses them.

See here:

The northern stretch is the bit I'm referring to, from Moreton Hall (nice coffee shop/cafe and parking) to Thurston. You can see where it crosses the road and the train line. It is on a National Cycle Route though (#51)

Oh also - cherry Hinton hall

Further afield there is thetford forest - would make a nice day out as also has massive playground.
Maybe also the paths round Lammas Land and go to playground round there as well?

Wandlebury park is nice but officially no cycling. You might be able to get away with kids with stabilisers but if the plan is to cycle with them I wouldn't.

Grafham Water (near St Neots) might be a better bet than my Bury suggestion:

Fabulous ideas. Thank you everyone. Now for some dry weather to try some of them out!

Sorry ihate - been away. Cafe at Hauser Forum is called Wests - it's next to the Broers Building at the end of JJ Thompson Ave. not open on weekend though.
