Hi, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what BH is like to live in, what it's like for young families and if there are areas we should avoid buying?

We're currently in Brighton but with a baby on the way are looking to buy somewhere bigger. Although we could afford a 2bed here, we couldn't afford a decent sized one in the areas we'd want to live so are looking further afield. DH commutes to St Pancras so we need to live close to the Brighton- London mainline/ first capital connect service, which is why we're thinking of BH. We've seen some nice properties online, but just don't know the town very well. Any comments would be ver gratefully received.

TIA.

Well I like it, been here just over 30years so a little biased though Smile

Most areas are good to live in, the odd "dodgy" area as with any town. Most of the estates are nice to live in. The newer ones esp (Jane Murray Way and area around The Triangle) have plenty of playparks built in, you can do a "park crawl" once your baby is older!

Plenty of activities for young ones. Lots of mother/baby clubs, many drop-in sessions. The local Library holds rhyme & story time each week and The Triangle holds several play sessions and obviously has the soft play area and baby pool.

All primary schools are good, none failing as far as I'm aware, and therefore not really the waiting lists you have in Brighton. If you are looking for childcare, there are 3/4 Montessori Nurserys in town (all owned by the same person) which I would recommend over the overs.

I do sometimes feel like the town centre is degrading slightly but the council are attempting to do something about it, and hopefully less charity shops soon. Good though for the quick nip into town, and nice coffee shops for a chat with a friend (and baby friendly too). If you want something bigger then Crawley is easier to get into than Brighton by car.

Anything I've missed? Or anything you want more information on? If there are specific housing areas you are looking at I'm happy to give an opinion.
