Hello everyone,

I am currently 29 weeks pregnant and have not signed up to any antenatel classes as yet. I have been researching online and have found the NCT classes which can become quite pricey, I am aware that NHS have classes to however I have no idea how to find out what classes are available and how to book on them. I intend to speak with my midwife regarding this however wodnered if anyone here could help?

Thank you! :-)

Your midwife should be able to tell you. Also check inside the cover of your blue notes, my classes were on a sticker in there when I got them, but that's maybe just what my mw did.

I had started my classes by the time I was 29 weeks though. If you have missed your mw classes tell her to get you on one at another surgery if you can.

Good luck!

When I went to St Johns they sent me a letter but they were daytime classes. My midwife organised ones at my practice. First time I missed the last 2 classes as dd came at 37 weeks. Second time they were a bit earlier.

Your midwife will invite you to them, usually 3 sessions for couples and then a women only breastfeeding workshop. What team of midwives are you with? The NHS ones are ok and cover the basics but private ones you may get more time/detail.

Hey,

We where told about our classes by our midwife...

I am 30 weeks - and our classes start on the 25th of June - so still a couple of weeks away.

Have also been told that private classes are far better but am doing both! :-)

Good luck...

Althought the NCT ones sound expensive, that's because they suggest adding on a year's NCT subscription, which is NOT compulsory or necessary. And, IMHO was a waste of money. I didn't see anything for my year's subscription and wish I'd just laid for the course fees alone, which were quite reasonable. I would thoroughly recommend the intensive weekend course - Sat + Sun 10-4 plus breastfeeding session the next Tuesday evening. I am so grateful for my NCT buddies 3 years down the line and I'm much closer to them than to my postnatal group from the GP surgery.
