Perse Prep open day

I'm going along with dd on Saturday to the open day as we are thinking about sending her there next year - year 3 entry. Anyone got any experience of this/going too??? I am worried it will be full of terrible boden-esque mummies and awfully earnest little girlies. Apparently it is a fun day with activites and an opportunity to have a chat and a look round. Haven't been there since my nephew (now 32) was there in 1988!!

I know some people who are sending their DC's there - but for Senior school.

Don't worry about the Boden-esque mummies. One of the mums who is sending her DD there is the most normal, down-to-earth woman imaginable, the other is the most awful stereotypical snob-type I have ever met, so I guess, like most independent schools, it will be a total mixed bag in respect of the parents.

I find children just tend to be children - good and bad, irrespective of their parents.

Be yourself and you won't go far wrong.

Excellent. I'm quite looking forward to the day - there ill be 'pastries'. DD certainly is Grin

Pastries?
Now I am interested. Where do I sign up? (even though I wasn't even considering sending my 2 to the Perse just yet!)

swearytramp · 13/06/2012 19:46

I'll probably dribble all the pastry down my top and lose any chance of getting her in Grin

Don't worry about that!

Dog hair, bits of baby vomit and wellies covered in horse pooh are the way to go daaaahling!

fab! Thank god my car is old and bit messy - shall I throw some tennis rackets in the back??

And a Panama hat! And a Boden catalogue! And a Labrador (you can hire one if you haven't got one!) And...

Do you think this might be why I haven't got many friends at DS's prep school? They just don't "get" me for some reason.

how do I do dd's hair? it's really long...I may go for the casually messy two pony tails, you know with a bit of hair sort of 'falling out' either side...Have chosen her casual Next (charity shop) dress - patchwork of course...

Stop it!!!! I need a wee! Blush

Bunches are, of course, a prerequisite. I believe 'one to the side' is very popular these days. (Based on 12 year old DS's appreciation of the girls in his form!)

Ok, in all seriousness, I'm going to a children's tea party At my daughters new prep school next week- she starts in August. What should I wear??? I don't have anything from Boden! Scarlett's wearing a joules outfit- suitable or too social climber esq?

scarlettsmummy2 · 13/06/2012 20:33

I normally put her hair in pigtail plaits- she is three.

diabolo · 13/06/2012 20:34

I basically wear Tu (Sainsbury's) and then enjoy watching the other mummies look me over from head to toe, trying to work out why I am wearing a £4 top with a £5K pair of pearl ear-rings!

Sorry - not a very serious answer! But TRUE!

swearytramp · 13/06/2012 20:35

oh yes, I love this one and have in fact tried to encourage a vair sim'lar style - strangely she wants a 'princess bun' with a pink tiara

That's fine- I am the same, was thinking jeans and a white top and a scarf to brighten it up and fake pearls!

jicky · 13/06/2012 20:48

I went last year and am not boden-esque nor do I have an earnest little girlie - more a demented boy. The other parents I spoke too were fathers who worked for the university - extremely bright but odd social skills - and some tiger mothers.

The pastries were over rated!

swearytramp · 13/06/2012 20:59

thanks jicky! that's kind of what I expected - I am quite nervous though. The reason we're considering sending her (and we would be after a bursary) is something i explained in the mad private school parents thread. basically she is partially deaf but extremely bright. We can't get funding for an aid for her to hear properly (although she is considered 'deaf') and feel that altbough she is keen and clever now, she may well begin to drift and lose focus as she gets older. I have the same condition and know that at my state schools i found it very hard to cope after a certain age and virtually gave up. We don't want her to lose her brightness and spark and honestly feel that somewhere like the perse would be ideal. My nephew went there on a bursary and he really thrived. Anyway, I'm still nervous of the day Grin

Just go thinking they would be lucky to get your dd rather than you would be lucky to get a place. Did wonders for my confidence :)

swearytramp · 14/06/2012 11:01

What a lovely way to treat it. I will!! Thank you.
