Moving to Hemel

Hello Hemel Mums,
I'm new here and need some advice.
I am planning on moving to Hemel in the very near future and just trying to get an idea of which areas are popular and if there are any to avoid.
Any inside info would be much appreciated.

Hello Eulalie,

I unfortunately can't help you but I am looking to move to Hemel myself this summer due to a job. I need a one bedroom flat and got the same questions about good areas etc. Have you ever been to Hemel?

EulalieSoeurs · 06/06/2012 11:05

yes i've visited Hemel many times now yet my observations are probably a little shallow, hence why I'm asking here. From what I've seen so far, it's difficult to say that any area is especially unpleasant. I've seen lovely roads in the less desirable parts and not very nice ones in the areas that are considered by the agents as most popular.

I will only have one or two weekends to actually find a flat due to time constraints so I won't have much time to look around unfortunately. I heard the old town is quite nice but it's hard to tell over the internet.

Have you used any agents? I thought about calling some and check whether they could help me arrange loads of viewings in two days.

EulalieSoeurs · 09/06/2012 21:02

The only agents I would avoid is Taylor's, who have been pushy and have ignored my requirements continually. But then that may just be the particular agent that i have dealt with. I take it that you are looking for a rental?

Thank you Eulalie, there seem to be a lot of agents so I will try and look out for someone else.

And yes, I will have to rent a flat.

And I will need good transport links, as I don't have a car and won't be able to afford one either. I am trying to find something for 600 a months but could stretch to 700 in a worst case scenario. I am moving alone for now as DP can't due to job situations, so it will have to be really safe for me to be out and about. I hope I can find something when I am down, I will only have 2 or 3 days to find something though.

Have you come to any decisions yet? When are you planning on moving?

I take it that you have looked at rightmove, so u can at least focus your attentions on places that meet your requirements? Just having had a brief look on rightmove there does seem to be alot within your budget.
I very much get the sense, from experience and from things i've read that Hemel is pretty safe. It's certainly not a high crime area.
If you need good transport links then i think u would also do well to have look in apsley which is a little south of hemel and has lots of apartments.

I'm looking to buy so am taking my time finding the right place, i'm also looking in watford.

Hi,

I live in Hemel and have done so for 30 Years!! Yes there are good parts and not so "nice" parts, but on the whole it does feel safe.

As a poster said earlier Apsley is very nice, good transport links...M25, M1, Bus into town, Watford etc and its own train station.

If you would like any other info PM me,

Good luck xx

Hemel has trains into London as do Apsley so what makes Apsley better in terms of transport to London?
