Thornbury - Is there anything for parents and kids to do?

Hi all,

Firstly, I'm brand new to mumsnet! So hello!!!!

Secondly, me, my partner and our daughter are thinking about moving to Thornbury but I know nothing about the area. I hear the schools are good(?!) and its a 'nice place to live' but thats it. We are living in Westbury at the moment and have easy access to brilliant cafes and shops and crafty places. My biggest fear is that we are going to move outside of Bristol and we won't have any of these things. Is there anything for young parents to do?

Thank you in advance - any advice would be appreciated.

Check out www.thornburymagazine.co.uk/ and look at the archived copies. This will give you some idea of what is going on in and around the Thornbury area.

Also have a look at Turnberrie community centre. There is always plenty going on there for all ages. Thornbury leisure centre is another place to look at.

There is a large Cafe One on the high street and numerous other places which are great to meet friends for coffe etc. it is also close to Old Down Country Park which is a great place for young children.

Fantastic - thank you MuMu!! Will do!

Going to have a good old wander around and ask some of the locals!! Coffee#1 is doing rather well for itself!

Thank you.

I used to live in Thornbury and it does have good schools, a good park, open countryside, a swimming pool, the usual clubs and activities but cafe culture and crafty places are not its forte imho.

I now live in Portishead and would say it is worth considering this are abecause the schools are on a par with Thornbury schools. Plus I would say it has more of a cafe culture than Thornbury and it is easier to get to Clifton Village, WOT, Southville for those things you mentioned ;-)

Somebody else has mentioned portishead...thank you so much. I will look into it! Mumsnet is GREAT isn't it!? Thanks for your help. Laura.
