Help! Commuting to London...

Hi everyone

We're living in Asia at the moment, but probably moving to England next year, so just trying to decide where to live! At the moment we're thinking that the area around Haywards Heath looks good for us, but please could you help me out with info about the commute to London....

From Haywards Heath, is the parking ok? Will it be a nightmare getting a seat?! (I imagine we'll be leaving pretty early!). Is the traffic to/from the station a problem?

Would we do better to commute from Three Bridges parking/traffic/seat-wise?

Or anywhere else?!

Would really appreciate any help.

Thanks so much!

Hi, my husband commutes from Brighton so is on the train that passes through Haywards Heath. We're looking to move a bit further up the train line this year, but he reckons it's it or miss at HH. Basically, that's where the train fills up, so it depends how quick you are! (he usually catches a trail leaving Brighton about 7am).

As for parking, I'm afraid I can't comment as I don't know the situation, and nor do I know much about Three Bridges, but I assume more trains go through there(?). Be aware, thugh, that parking at railway stations isn't usually cheap. I think it's £10 per day in Brighton, but that's probably more than average.

We're looking at moving to Burgess Hill/ Wivelsfield area as the trains aren't full there and it's easy to drop off/ pick up.

Hi Equimum

Really appreciate your reply. Looks like my husband's going to be getting up early!! Interesting about the parking, I hadn't even taken that into account.

Thanks so much for you help.

Hello!
I commute from Haywards Heath into Victoria. I used to always get a seat as I couldn't bear the idea of standing and was pleasantly surprised when we moved form London. The commute is easier than SE London to Victoria. I used to get the 07:20 from HH and always always got a seat I am a creature of habit and always go to carriage 2..not sure that's relevant but hey..
Anyway expecting baby 2 and have been going int work later catching a variety of trains between 8am and 9am depending on how knackered. Again, never had a problem with a seat, even tho I have been sitting in 1st Class ( the privilege of pregnancy and all that) there are still plenty to go round.
I used to walk from Lindfield to the station but have in the last month driven and parked..now the later you go the fuller the car park but there is always a space but the later it is the further away you will be from he exit..daily charge £7.

Hi Emski

Thanks so much for that info, that's really encouraging, especially about the parking, which is pricey but still affordable.

Could you tell me vaguely what the traffic is like in the morning around Haywards Heath? I imagine at that time it's ok?

Good luck with Baby no 2!!

Hello again!
the parking rates drop if you buy weekly, monthly or yearly but cant remember what they are...
When I was leaving home at 7am there was no traffic at all and I used to walk anyway and not really any more an hour later. Think it depends on the direction we are only just over a mile from the station so I didn't really notice.
Move to Lindfield I love it. We moved from London last year.
