Antenatal refresher courses?

Hi, does anyone know of any antenatal refresher courses in Hove (or Brighton)? I've checked NCT and YouToUs and both seem to have their next refresher courses in the early autumn - I'm due in mid/late July. If not, I'm tempted to piggyback on a standard antenatal course as I was in London for my first baby (now almost 3) and am keen to meet people, but would rather go for the second-baby option if it's out there!

Hi Gavotte. I don't know of any but I did an NCT post-natal course and some of the mums on that were second-timers. It was on a weekday morning and attended by mums and newborns only so you have childcare for DC1. It wasn't a great course but I met nice people and I think it would probably cater better for a second time mum than a regular ante-natal course.

Otherwise contact Claire at Yogamamas - she runs lots of ante-natal yoga and other classes and might have a suggestion for you.

When did you move from London? We moved down a few years ago too and it took ages to get to know people so we missed London for ages but have eventually settled in and are very happy here now.

Hi MissPolly - thanks for that, really good idea about the postnatal course. I've actually been to YogaMamas but it wasn't for me (I have relaxation issues, despite having a yoga teacher in my family!). We moved in December - definitely slow to meet people and am hoping a new baby and a few weeks off may help. We also move house in a couple of weeks (have been renting temporarily) so we can start putting down roots. It's really good to know that things settle eventually - we've definitely been missing our friends (and trying to persuade them to move down...)

I re-read my post and see that it was a bit confusing on the childcare point - it should have read that you need to find childcare for DC1 while the course is on. As far as I can recall, the course I did was about two hours every Monday for six weeks.

Having a new baby will definitely help with getting to know people. For once in my life, I had no inhibitions in the weeks after childbirth and would happily stop complete strangers in the park to ask for parenting tips. The anguish joy of new motherhood is a great leveler Grin.
