If my son is going to be starting Reception in Sept 2013, pls could someone tell me... if I've put his name down for a private school by when would I need to accept the offer of a place? Generally by when do they let you know that his admission has been successful? Thanks a lot !

Seems really late that you don't know already tbh, I'd give them a call. At latest I'd say Easter when the LA allocations are out and you can still give a full term's notice declining a place.

ah sorry, for 2013 Probably around Christmas time in that case.

Don't forget to apply for state school back up.

mumtoone78 · 15/03/2012 16:23

i meant to ask how can we arrange a backup of the private school rather than the state school. so if my son doesnt get into a particular state school would it be too late for me to have held on to the private school offer? considering that they confirm in Dec and state schools only in April. if anyone has any advice/experience regd such a situation then do let me know. much appreciated !

You would probably forfeit any acceptance fee (this can vary but could be several hundred pounds) but should be in time to give a full term's notice (ie cancel the place by first day of summer term).

thanks lizs. thats what i thought but wasnt too sure.

Find out how much the acceptance fee is. However I have known someone give up their private place to accept a state place at the end of the summer, despite the term or mores fees, and all the uniform. I think quite a few in Guildford do withdraw if they get the state school they want.

Thanks mummytime. yes i guess if you weigh up these costs vs fees over the next few years it is kind of worth it ! the things we do for our children's education !!! ;)
