Moving to Marlow, Bourne End, Wooburn Green, Flackwell Heath, Beaconsfield?!

Hi,

We're planning a move out of London to find a lovely family home where we hope to spend the next 20 years! We want to live near my work in High Wycombe but haven't warmed to High Wycombe itself. So as the title suggests we are considering all the nice areas nearby!

We're looking for an area with a strong sense of community, where we can really feel part of things, enjoy nearby countryside, have parks to take the children, good schools, but also local amenities/shops too (yes, we want it all!). Also, my husband needs to be within 2 miles of a train station to London.

Can anyone tell me about the surrounding areas, such as those in the title. In particular we love Marlow and Bourne End due to their river side location but know so little about them!

Thanks in advance!

Marlow is beautiful. We've lived here 26 years.

Our eldest child attends Danesfield school, which is just outstanding. Marlow is a nice place to be.

Hi, I'm so glad I across this conversation . We are applying for schools now for our ds and we are still trying to decide which is our preferred first choice ... Danesfield or burford ... We are really in love with both schools.. Both are very different but definitely have their qualities. The pressure is really on us to make the right decision as my son has a statement of needs which generally means we should get our first choice ... So we just want to make sure we are making the correct one. If anybody can offer any advice . It would be really appreciated xxx (I've been to see both schools twice now and discussed my sons needs... Both very promising ) also just an extra point I have a younger son who will be starting school the following year .. And I would hate to be in a position where he does not get a place at the same school.

Hi

I've just picked up this thread and am seriously considering moving to Marlow. It seems to have a lovely community feel and a great place to start a family. My only query is whether the so called 'bad area' near the high street really is bad? The houses aren't as attractive as some, but I would just like to know if it's still a nice safe area to raise a family????

What bad area near the high street? Give me road names and I'll let you know!

With regards Burford or Danesfield, you can't go wrong with either. Which are you closest to?

Hi!
There are houses near Willowmead gardens or Herons place. Do you know of these areas?

compleat · 16/11/2014 14:43

I know both of those areas. If you have children I would avoid Willowmead as I assume your catchment is Foxes Piece School. Sandygate/Holy Trinity would be the catchment of Heron's Place I assume?

I think both of the estates are pretty much privately owed now with the odd housing association smattered in between. I would just make sure your know who your close neighbours are!

Heron's Place is much better placed for the town.

I grew up on the road next door to Willowmead but went to school further afield. I'm not sure this would be a possibility nowadays.

Another similar estate to those two is Dedmere Court. Have a look at that too, although the catchment is probably Foxes Piece again.
