Would you use a private tutor ?

Hi,
I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with 7 years experience. I am currently at home full time with my 10 month old son, I am at a bit of a crossroads and would appreciate some advice. I love working with children and am missing being a teacher, however I love, love, love being a stay at home mum. I am considering working as a private tutor and childminder whilst my son is small. I'm trying to gauge the demand for private tuition for primary children in the Hove area. So if you live in Hove and have primary aged children,

-Would you/do you use a private tutor ?

And if you would,

-How much would you feel is a reasonable amount to pay per hour, if tutor came to your home ?
-How many hours a week would you envisage using a private tutor ?
-Would you be interested in small group tutoring, 2-4 children, for a reduced rate ?

Thanks in advance for any replies you will really help and and my wee family make our next steps !

I would use one and know many people that already do, particularly in y5 and y6 if they would like their children to go to any of the private schoold that have competitive entrance exams. The good tutors are fully booked with waiting lists I believe.

Hope that helps. Good luck

have a look at FirstTutors as you can be added to a list - I know a few people who have got tutors from it.

I am definately considering a tutor for my yr4 son, who is falling behind in literacy, I have used a tutor before for my eldest son we paid £20/hr and went to her home.

Another one considering a tutor for year three DS. Wouldn't want a group thing though as I would be using a tutor so Ds would get targeted help and be able to do work he was really interested in such as projects but with guided help from a professional instead of my rather poor help.

Not sure I would be able to afford £20 p/h but would be happy to go to the tutors home or have them at mine.

I would be quite happy for a group tutoring session (2/3) but obviously wouldn't want to pay the £20/hr!

I personally wouldn't, as DD is doing okay without extra help, BUT I definitely would if she was struggling at all - also several of her friends do & one of her Teachers seems to do extra tuition after School too seems £20 ish is the going rate for 1-1 too & I'd be happy with that if it targeted any specific weakness

Good luck & can I suggest you used the Family Info Service to promote yourself, its always my first port of call if I'm looking for any DC related services, so could well be good for you :)
