Any parents in Cambridgeshire who want to meet up?

Hi,

I would really like to know if there are any parents who are out there in Cambridgeshire who would like to get together? I have a one year old son and I have probably made a big mistake by not joining any NCT classes when I was pregnant as I am now finding it quite lonely not knowing any people with children for the past year!

I am actively trying to find baby groups and any organisations where parent and child get together and socialise near where I live.

If anyone has any ideas or is in the same situation, please get in touch.

Thanks alot.
Fridayyet

Hi Fridayyet - where in Cambridgeshire are you? I'm in a village north west (think busway), and I have a 13 month old daughter. I'm back at work now, though have one day off a week, but did find a few good groups. Lovely, lovely baby singing group just off Mill Road but I have totally forgotten the name of the road/church where it was - I'll update that when my brain has unfrozen!
Have you got a children's centre near you? The Romsey Mill one always seems to have lots on; my local one doesn't have so much but the things that are on are really good and great for meeting a wide mix of people.
I also went to the Friday morning NCT drop in at the Unitarian Church in town for a while, I think that caters for up to toddlers, and that always seemed very friendly.
We did baby signing for a while with a well known franchise, but didn't think the teacher was very good, but the other parents were nice.
My NCT group were really lovely and although we barely have time to meet up these days we do try every so often and I'm sure an extra mum and baby would be welcome too!

Hi Fridayyet,

I've just moved out of central Cambridge - but hopefully I can give you a few pointers.

Romsey Mill is a good place to start. Central location and lots of play groups, song times etc. There are even monthly Dad's Only events (bacon rolls provided!) - so you can have a morning off at a weekend!

Down the road from Romsey Mill is Ross Street Community Centre which has fewer events but is a good place to make friends with other parents.

A bit further south I used to take my two sons (4 & 2) to a singing class at the Quaker Meeting Place (no religious hard sell, don't worry!). I can't quite remember the start time - I think 10am on Mondays? But contact them and they'll be able to help.

Give those a bash for starters. If more occur to me, I'll let you know.

Anna Youngs' baby yoga classes are very friendly. And there's the Little Bookworms library on Saturday mornings at Ross St Community Centre.

Hi Fridayyet, I'm in Cambs (also NW but even more NW than the busway!) and I have a very-nearly-1-yo DD and a 3.4yo DD.

We used to go to our local Surestart centre quite a lot but it seems to cater for younger toddlers and babies so DD1 doesn't seem so welcome there any more. There should be tons of stuff on at your local one that would suit your DS, there is a list of centres here.

Thank you all for the ideas of places to go. I will check some of these out.

Finally remembered - the baby singing is at the Methodist Church on Sturton Street - 1.30 for those who can crawl. It's lovely and costs £3.
