Hello, my DD is now overdue which is amazing as throughout pregnancy have had health scare, development scare, possible early labour etc so to now be past due date is brilliant! We joined NCT and did antenatal classes and did hypnobirthing classes and I was part of another internet forum and did antenatal yoga but so far not made many friends.
I find making friends difficult at the best of times but did make some at both yoga and hypnobirthing but on them the people are not living in same area and we don't have a car anymore. NCT were really good from a class perspective but DH and I were youngest by over 10 years and didn't "gel" with anyone - the lease said about the other forum the better (hope this site regulates its members posts a little better and doesn't put up with abuse).
I just think it would be good to be able to meet up with other mum's for coffee and socialise a bit both for her and my benefit as she has to be the only baby for about 5 years - financial reasons mostly but as me and DH are 24 and 26 respectively there is no great biological rush to have more so we can wait the 5 years and then see - this little one is so wanted and loved already.
Any advice as I do want to make friends but am awkward and find new people and places scary without the potential aftermath of DD (please be nice though)... :)

I don't know the Cambridge scene ever so well but there is a thriving LLL group that I've been to a few times and there are some really nice people there, that might be a good place for you to meet some other mums. There are a few children's centres too that have all kinds of playgroups and baby massage and that sort of thing.

Which part of Cambridge do you live in?

Good luck with the birth :) Are you having her at the Rosie? I had my DD1 there, it was lovely.

Ice9116 · 16/01/2012 16:06

Yup will be going up there to have her - heard loads of good stuff about the Rosie but not been able to do the visit thing of MLBU or DU as are always so busy & tours were all booked up from 20 wk scan but bags are packed and fingers crossed for birthing pool to be free :)

There are lots of things on at Romsey Mill (Mill Road) in Cambridge, including a new parents group, if this is the right area for you. Staff are lovely too. If not, look up your nearest SureStart Centre.

Had DS1 at the pool in the Rosie (before the refurb) and it was great. Good luck!

An0therName · 17/01/2012 19:58

hi where are you - I know waterbeach surestart does a group for under 25s - I imagine some others do -

Ice9116 · 18/01/2012 09:08

Kings Hedges - well will be (rather than City Centre) as soon as house sale completed...

the children's centre in histon is lovely - and guided bus would take pretty near to it -good range of mums go to it

magpieC · 31/01/2012 16:04

You may have already found this but according to the the North Cambridge Children's centre What's On guide I've just picked up they have a Young Parents (under 25s) "Chill and Chat" session on a Tuesday lunch time. They also have a New Parents and Parents to be lunchtime on a session on Monday. The centre is on Campkin Road so convenient for Kings Hedges.

Hope you've delivered a lovely, healthy little girl now :-)

Throughgrittedteeth · 01/02/2012 15:31

I went to that yesterday for the first time and it's great! Hope to see you there Smile

Ice9116 · 06/02/2012 14:54

Hope to be there soon too - delivered DD at Hinchingbrooke in the end as Rosie was full and closed but was fabulous... did all my hypnobirthing breathing and stuff so mostly laboured at home and then delivered her 45 minutes after getting to hospital and was discharged 6 hours later. We start baby swimming at the end of February too so hoping to meet people there too.
Throughgrittedteeth - how old is your DC?

Throughgrittedteeth · 06/02/2012 18:08

Congratulations Ice ! When was she born? My DS is 6 months, we've been looking at swimming actually, where will you be doing it?

Ice9116 · 07/02/2012 15:21

21.1.12 so now 17 days old :D
The swimming itself is at Castle School as their pool is heated to warm enough temperatures (minimum of 32 degrees when under 12 weeks apparently) but the company is waterbabies - not cheap but small class sizes mean its safe and the teacher we have is lovely (over the phone).
Still not venturing too far as we are less than 3 weeks and contract exchange has been delayed again but hoping to go week after next to the "Chill and Chat" :)

Sadly I'm too old for the Chill and Chat but we've been going to Water Babies at the Castle School since September and love it!

Ice9116 · 08/02/2012 19:02

Oooh! Two people me and L will meet soon! First waterbabies is on 23rd Feb :)

Is the chill and chat for under 25s?

helenlynn · 22/02/2012 23:48

I was about to say you should try Water Babies at the Castle School as a good activity in north Cambridge, but I see you've already signed up to start tomorrow! I've been going there since some time in the autumn with my son who is now seven months old. It is definitely the most enjoyable thing we do, and I hope you love it too :-) Our day is Tuesday though, so we won't bump into one another. And I'm afraid I'm another one of those mums who is ten years older than you (though I do wish we'd started earlier...). I do sympathise with finding it awkward to meet new people - I am hopeless at it.

More events at this centre: www.cambridgeshirechildrenscentres.org.uk/timetable/arbury-castle

Ice9116 · 27/02/2012 14:43

Thought I'd feedback - thank you all for your replies - DD liked her swimming to the extent that she went to sleep in the "swim position" - awww... Anyway, one of the Mums there I recognised from antenatal yoga so that was good and I tried one parent group so far but won't go back to that one, maybe another.
The waterbabies people are lovely and I must've been looking nervous as they asked if I was uncomfortable in water - I'm not and love it and want L to enjoy it in the same way it was meeting that many new people - they're very reassuring people. Its odd that the age thing now matters when it never has before but is sort of nice to know other ppl feel as much of a spanner in social situations at me - something I would rather DD not inherit.
Thanks again :)
