How come all the church schools are coming up as 2 in Ofsted?

I'm right on the edge of Wandsworth/Merton and wanted to send DC to a faith school. Trying to work out which one nearest but also which one is good...they all seem to be coming up as 2 in Ofsted but I presume they are brilliant? Anyone got any advice/help to give (Apart from the fact that not a chance of getting in, despite letter from vicar!)

It might be worth going on the OFSTED website and reading the OFSTEDs yourself and then visiting the schools if possible. The wording in the OFSTED will give you more idea than the grade. Then you can go by what you think. Sometimes schools have good cosy reputations even though there are problems at the school. I don't know the area you refer to so can't help with that.

Why do you presume that they are brilliant?

rightsaidfred · 12/02/2012 00:10

Which schools are you looking at?
BG is outstanding, HT is pretty damn close to outstanding and both are on the merton/ wandsworth border.

Which schools are you talking about OP and again - why do you assume they are brilliant. Holy Trinity is generally considered to be a good school although wouldn't say brilliant based on local opinion. I can't see why you would think that a church school would necessarily guarantee an outstanding Ofsted report.

Sure they are only really good because they have very, very middle class intakes so operate almost like pre-prep schools!

Well I stand to be corrected but if you look at the parents at drop-off/pick up times they seem to me like your classic yummy mummies - there may be exceptions to the rule but we are not talking high %

gazzalw - the 'very,very middle class' thing - doesn't mean pre-prep like.
I know a number of children now going to pre-prep who were previously at schools like Holy Trinity and even Dundonald and Bishop Gilpin. The preps are different and it isn't just down to intake.
They really don't take children from a wider catchment area in my opinion just because so many people who want to get in sudddenly find religion 18 months before application deadline.

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone at all. But just to say that those particular schools are definitely not reflective of socially diverse schools if that's what you are looking for.

I would say from limited but local experience that people tend to choose those schools more for the tribal nature of them than for religious reasons - only IMO but sure I'm not the only one who thinks that about them!
