Hi,

We are thinking of relocating to Cheltenham, DH will have a better commute and we will be closer to both sets of parents.

I really don't know the areas so we are going to have a look next weekend but just wanted to get a head start on areas.

We currently live in an individual new build in a small village. We both love new houses but have never lived on a big development before. I like the Taylor Wimpey houses in Up Hatherley. Does anyone know what this development and the general area is like?

I know some larger developments can be very nice if there are in a good location.

Any other ideas on areas would be great.

Thank you

CHristchurch is a great school, but the admissions policy is to favour children whose parents have attended the local church regularly for two years. If you haven't, you can live on the same road and your child may not get in. It's a very small C of E school.

More likely excellent schools in Cheltenham would be Leckhampton (it's C of E but closeness to the school is the sole criteria) Naunton Park and Charlton Kings. All are OFSTED Outstanding and all are very over-subscribed, so you'd need to live half a mile or less away to get a place, but that's all that counts, after allowing for siblings of existing pupils. They're all nice places to live, albeit expensive by Cheltenham standards. Bishop's Cleeve is a little out of Cheltenham to the north, but also a great place to live with fantastic schools. Gotherington is a village less than a mile to the north again, and it has one of the best-rated primaries in the country. But it is a very insular community so you'd need to like village life.

John all state schools in the UK are completely free. No parental contribution at all. Though if you want an academic, cheaper private option, Pate's is very good for younger kids. Really though you don't need to go privately here. My child has a friend from nursery who is at Pate's and they are working at the same level, despite his being in the state system. That is most definitely not so in some state primaries, but it is in the best ones in Cheltenham.

Hi...
Does anyone know if the school situation is the same as messages below from 2012?

Thanks

hi, my family & I are looking to return to the UK after several years abroad and are considering Cheltenham. Our twins are soon to be two and I understand from reading various posts that Cheltenham is a great place for families.
I have seen a few properties on & near The Park, and whilst the houses look lovely I do not know anything about the area - is this a nice place for families... is living next to the University campus a problem...etc.
Any comments would be most appreciated.
