hello there Devon crowd,
my parents live in mid Devon and we will be down there for christmas (we are in Scotland!) and we would really like to give my Dad a kitten for christmas..
I know this sounds faintly ridiculous but my parents had a cat until he died 4 years ago and my Dad has pretty much been in mourning since (think the cat was a substitute child after we left home and my dad took charge of it entirely..) but now seems ready for a new cat but is procrastinating about getting one so we thought we should just get him one for christmas! Rest assured, any kitten he is given will be adored and treasured.
But its a bit hard to find a kitten when we live so far away (my sis is in london) and I just wondered if the power of MN could be employed on this one..
looking forward to seeing if this works Grin
ps obviously we would be prepared to pay something! Within reason..

Have you checked with your Dad or is it a surprise? The Blue Cross rescue near Bickleigh is fantastic and very helpful. They often seem to have kittens and can help with getting them wormed, neutered etc. If you were able to liaise with your parents in advance then maybe you could pay the adoption fee as a Christmas present? I think my Dad would be fairly lost without his cats so know how you feel :)

Hi Alma, yes he did register with them a couple of years ago but they like to match you to a cat and somehow they don't seem to have had one that they think they can match him too and then his registration lapsed which was a bit of a faff in the first place so that put him off a bit. But maybe we need to pursue that line again! chees Smile

If you're just getting one cat I would really recommend one at least six months old. Younger kittens really need a companion if possible, they can rough play with each which helps them have better manners with people and they just do better with the companionship of another young cat.

A six month old is still a kitten in many aspects but easier to look after and better suited to being a single cat. You might find more cats of this age too as usually more are born in the warmer months (although with the weather this year who knows!).
