How old is your DD? Morningside & neighbouring Bruntsfield have zoned parking till about 6pm although there is park and pay available, but be careful the main routes have no parking from (I think)4pm certainly no later than 4.30pm which catches a lot of people out!

Dining really depends on the age of your child, there are some pubs in the area which will let 12+ in to eat, Waiting room, Morning Glory etc or you could head to Bruntsfield and eat at the Italian Papillios.

..or avoid parking problems and age restrictions and head to the Tusitala as it is on the direct route out to the bypass.

Sorry should have said she is 3.5 so a bit young for pubs! But sit happily at a cafe or restuarante. We love Taste of Italy for example, we have a blue badge but need to be able to park near by

Well, there are plenty cafes in Morningside but most close at 6, (The Clock is good). There is a new cafe/restaurant at the corner of Maxwell St/Morningside Road called Cafe e Cucina, it's only been open for a week, I've not been yet so can't offer a review. TBH the Tusitala sounds ideal for you. 5 min drive from the Astley, not my first choice for dining out but ticks the boxes re age and parking issues.

Thanks, will let you know what we choose in the end

so - isw, where did you end up eating?

We had dinner at the Cafe e Cucina this week - very friendly service, slightly long until food came, large portions (actually, we were stuffed after the starters), VERY yummy panna cotta with berry sauce, VERY strong espresso, slightly too expensive for the overall experience, we'll try an afternoon coffee next :)

CatherinaJTV - thanks for the review, I had a look at the menu and I thought it was a bit on the expensive side too. The prices are what I'd expect if I was going to head into town for a night out. However, I do love panna cotta so maybe that might tempt me!

My hairdresser gave Cafe e Cucina a good review. Tusitala is ok but stick to pizza, very mixed experience with anything more sophisticated and they have a great wood fired oven.

I am very embarrassed to say we ended up going to McDs at the Fort :( It had been a v long day and we deceided we needed to eat closer to home. But we do have to go to the AA hopital and Sick kids often so are always looking for recommends.
We did look at Cafe e Cucina and also thought it was a bit pricey but will put it back on the maybe list. Thanks

Sometimes McDs hits the spot Smile.

Between Morningside and the bypass, on Comiston Road, there is Tusitala (just north of Frogston Road). I go there fairly often and am happy to recommend it.
