Advice on family-friendly GP in Walthamstow

Hello,

We have just moved to Walthamstow village and we'd like to start a family soon. I wondered if any local residents had any particular recommendations on the best GP to sign-up with?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you!
Libby

Welcome to the 'stow!

Dr Bailey is my GP; I've only visited her twice but she seems good. Her appointments system suits me too.

There is a larger practice at Addison Road which (bizarrely, IMO) doesn't offer family planning services. Although I don't need them at the mo (I too am TTC), that put me off.

Thank you wineandcheese! I love your name (and wine and cheese).

Is the Dr Bailey booking system just turn up and wait? Is there much of a wait/problem with this?

Thanks again.
Libby

Sorry for the late reply Libby, I only just looked at this again.

Yes, she operates a turn up and wait system on weekday mornings from 8.30 until 11, then the rest of the day is appointment only.

I did the turn up and wait thing and had to wait for about 15 mins each time (once at 8.30, and once at 10.30ish). I'm happy with that - it seems to work well.

Hi Libby!

I've heard really good things about the Health Clinic at C

dugsinthestow · 22/12/2011 07:38

Sorry!!

Clinic at Comely Bank. We're looking at maybe changing our doctors to there as well but I'm not sure about systems etc! Enjoy Walthamstow!

I'm planning to move back to the Stow and used to be at Addison Road Surgery and they were pretty good.

I did used to have to go to Leyton Orient Football Ground (sort of) for my contraceptive injections though!

Do they provide any midwife services? Does that come under family planning? I'm going to be really quite pregnant by the time I move back.

ooooo more MNs from Walthamstow.
I thought there was only me and two others.

dugsinthestow · 23/12/2011 05:09

@mrsdeveres....nope but have been hidIng due to silly nerves :S

@mikocat all of my midwife care went through Whipps- I even self referred to ante-natal as my doctor's surgery is so painfully rubbish....for example, they sent me 8 letters requesting me to book smear while I was pregnant even though I had met with the doctor and informed him....#facepalm

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 23/12/2011 08:23

I dont live in the village.
I had my mw care through the gp and LLoyd Park had a community MW drop in who was lovely. Unfortuantely that has stopped now.

I had two lovely homebirths. The HB rate is very low in LBWF but I had no trouble when I asked for them.

Dont be nervouse dugsin only some of us on the interweb are weirdy stalkery types Xmas Grin

Addison Rd surgery is highly rated on those systems that measure Gp effectiveness. However, Dr Cooney (sr partner) is excellent doctor but strict catholic and therefore only does fertility awareness for family planning. There is a good WF FPC centre on Oliver Rd E10 that fills the gap.
