Activities with 6 month old

I'm looking to take my 6 mth old DS to some sort of activity group - partly for me to get out the house, and also for him to play/stare at other babies! - and wondered if anybody had any recommendations? I've seen ads for things like tumbletots and gymboree, both of these do stuff for babies, but what are they like? Are they better for toddlers or would pre-crawlers still get something out of it?

I did think about baby yoga but DS is quite big and active for his age, and I think he might get a bit bored!

I know there's tons of stuff on in B&H, so any advice/tips would be great.

Thanks

I really enjoyed sing and sign with my ds2 - google it, there are classes all over Brighton.

didn't find a good music group.

I did gymboree with him too, but he enjoyed it more than I did! It's very expensive.

We've been going to parent and baby swimming classes since she was 11weeks old. Would definitely recommend those :)

Are you central? There's a lovely drop in playgroup at St Nicholas church on Dyke Road on Tuesday mornings 9.15 - 11.15. £2.50 entrance with free tea/coffee/biscuits :)

The best things I thought were the (free) children's centre playgroup (I went to the one in Hove) because the equipment is all very nice, trained childcare people there to chat with as well as other parents, and information about what is happening in the community. Baby Boogie at the libraries. Or there was a nice baby group on Thursdays at the Cornerstone at Hove.
All free.
King Alfred swimming pool has cheap drop in swimming lessons in the baby pool, just songs and actions. Quite nice but my daughter seems to get more out of it if we just go to the pool independently ourselves.

I would add that I think a lot of the groups are what a parent thinks a baby wants, and are geared towards the parent more than the baby. Once you get out and meet some people and the baby has something to look at, some songs, some scope to roll around/crawl, i think that's all you need. I wouldn't spend too much.
Then that is just me being opinionated but you did ask!
