Good Morning!

Has anyone started worrying about this already? I'm really anxious!

The council is trying to persuade people to go to their local schools this year. Where are you applying to - do you know if it normally has out of catchment spaces? I know some schools are easier to get into than others

I know I heard it on Radio Scotland this morning. My catchement is Niddrie Mill, I haven't had a visit yet. I was hoping to get my two children who are currently in the Nursery into Duddingston Primary. At the time the kids started going nursery we lived in the Duddingston catchment so it was the only nursery I visited.

This was the report this morning. I supppose though it said that 1/3 were refused so 2/3rd's must have got in so that's still positive I guess.

I also heard the report - thought the niddrie mill head sounded great. But I also know how difficult it must be if, whatever a schools merits, you would like your kids to go elsewhere.

I do know quite a few people with kids in 'less popular' primaries and all of them were pleasantly surprised how much they liked the school after a couple of weeks. Some schools get stuck with a reputation they don't deserve.

Good luck though - whatever your choice!

They're also attempting to encourage people not to defer, which may take intake numbers up in popular schools as deferals can often free up spaces.

My friend's wee girl went to St Francis's nursery class as there was space there at the time. She's now thriving well in Niddrie Mill. Her catchment is Castleview but Niddrie Mill means she walks and then gets the bus to work. Castle View is a bit of a trek from her house.

Also did you know that any places granted on appeal etc as "ignored" when it comes to class sizes as the places have already been filled. So although you get your child into the preferred school the class size will be over legal and preferred limits.
