Metal/Rock mums

Hello

Are there any other mums out there who are into alternative and underground music? As much as I love DS, there is only so much talk I can do about sleep, food and poo without going nuts and am dying to meet up with other mums who love their rock loud and heavy and would rather sit and flick through Terrorizer than Heat magazine.

If, like me, you are gutted the Big Red is now closed in the day and remember when the Old Kings Head was a bar with no beer rather than a Costa or would like to debate whether Hellfest or Download are really that child-friendly then reply to this post and let's meet up.

Hello there!

I found your message, oddly enough, looking for Metal Mums :) \m/

While my LO Isabella has changed many things, she has not changed what I listen to or how I dress- At the cost of me feeling like the odd one out in some mumsy situations ;)

Izzy went to a number of gigs while inside mummy's tummy, and my husband maintains that the best way to put her to sleep is anything by Devin Townsend (other bands work just as well, she has just fallen asleep to Iron Maiden).

As you mention child friendly metal festivals, I went to Tuska festival last summer, while I was around 22 weeks pregnant and feeling absolutely massive. I was very pleasantly surprised by the amount of families who made it a family day out- The first shop as you went into the festival compound was a shop of ear defenders with not one but three models for babies! Furthermore, it was easily reached by the Helsinki metro system (no camping, which is impossible with young kids)

While the concrete floor wasn't the most comfortable to sit on for the grownups, you would not be lugging a pushchair through a muddy field. Also, Finns are very strict with alcohol policies, so there was absolutely no drinking outside the beer tents, and zero tolerance policy regarding antisocial behaviour. Very civilized, plus we made it into a holiday and visited Talinn and Helsinki as well.

Now, this year's Tuska does not look like a line-up we'd be tempted by, so I'm not really sure where to go- And while Wacken looks good, I have no idea how practicable it would be with a 7-8 month old baby- Any clues?

I'm a \m/ mum!!!

Live in Wood Green, mum of twins, usually seen rushing round with my big red machine (double buggy)!!

My babies love Lamb of God & Hatebreed.....will quite happily fall asleep in the car with their CD blaring!

I would have loved to have gone to some gigs whilst pregnant but I was far too huge!

I used to be a regular at the Big Red, Intrepid Fox & Crobar. I miss my nights out!!

Ah I've just seen there are replies!

@SpanishLass - if you are ever in London, please let us know. No idea if Wacken is child-friendly. Although Supersonic in Birmingham is super child-friendly - even has a kids stage. That or ATP in December. Might do a day at Download but really want to take DS1 to Hellfest for my 30th next year.

@Indifference - I'm Archway Road way but need to head into Wood Green in the next week, if you fancy a coffee? Or when you see this post. I too miss nights out. And gigs, heck I really miss gigs. Just deciding last minute to head to town & see a band. We're off to the Wino matinee show in Camden on Saturday. Got the MiL down to sit.
